Hajj in the 13th Century
When traveling to Mecca for pilgrimage looked like this:
Months on the road, marked by genuine hardship. Long days and nights when the mercy of a fellow traveler could mean the difference between life and death. A journey that pushed your patience to limits you did not know you had, endured entirely for the sake of God.
Then, after all those months, you finally reached your destination. Together, you raised your voices:
“Here I am, O God, here I am. Here I am; You have no partner; here I am.”
After a journey like that, those words carried a weight greater than gold.

If turning it off/on doesn’t work, slap it.

One of my favorite things about people is when their humanity precedes their occupation. You get lots of that in Morocco. The security guard noticed I was taking a picture of the door and made sure to crack the brightest smile
