Study found that neither the safer supply policy nor the subsequent decriminalization of drug possession appeared to alleviate the opioid crisis. Instead, both were associated with an increase in opioid overdose hospitalizations. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

Can we get that Larry Campbell report on the DTES now @LDoerkson? You know the one where he said he doesn’t know where the money is going and reporters did very little to investigate after that?

As a lifelong NDP supporter who even worked with them in Canada’s Parliament in Ottawa, I am so glad the NDP no longer rule politics in British Columbia. As someone who has worked more than full-time on Vancouver’s tragic DTES for 10 years, I have witnessed first-hand their disastrous policies with hundreds of millions of dollars pouring into the neighbourhood every year to sustain the status quo, but no meaningful help available to those with serious mental health and addiction issues.

In no meaningful way has Vancouver been under some sort of cruel "right wing" government — not for the last four years, not for the last 40 years. This idea that TRUE compassion has never been tried is the delusion of a small group of far-left politicians. Who are now in charge.

I attended a community event during the Kennedy Stewart era where locals were rallying for city approval to put up a fence to stop drug users from accessing the play area of their local daycare. Drug users had been leaving needles and feces. Daily morning cleanups were required.
Pete Fry attended the event and I will never forget what he said. “The drug users need safe spaces too.” He was definitely more concerned about drug users than concerned parents. He didn’t even support the fence it seemed.
It took over two years for the locals to get their fence.

Everyone knows Vancouver already has the most supportive housing and the most taxpayer-funded housing and services of anywhere in BC, even Larry Campbell has said we have too much. People from all over the world flock here specifically because there’s free everything: free food, free housing, free money, free clothes. The list is endless. You can live like a king or queen in the DTES while still being labeled “poor.”

This plebiscite and election matter. Join Mayor Ken Sim and experts for a live Virtual Town Hall on the Public Safety Plebiscite, and learn why only ABC Vancouver is committed to delivering it.
Thursday, October 15 at 7 PM
I’m personally inviting you to listen in, ask questions and join the conversation. Subject matter experts will explain how a YES vote will deliver compassionate healthcare and make Vancouver safer. A YES vote is the first step. Only Mayor Ken Sim and ABC Vancouver will put it into action.
Sign up now at: form.typeform.com/to/Fzi0b1a…. Enter your name, phone number and postal code, and we’ll call you just before the start to join the live meeting.
On October 17, the Public Safety Plebiscite puts the decision in your hands:
VOTE YES on Question One to strengthen City bylaws against open air hard drug use, giving police a faster tool to intervene, ticket and seize drugs without a lengthy criminal process.
VOTE YES on Question Two to demand the Province create secure medical treatment, including 100+ involuntary care beds at the old St. Paul’s Hospital or another similar site.
More than 100 patients can be in Vancouver acute care right now waiting for appropriate tertiary mental health beds. Dedicated capacity means better care for people in crisis and frees emergency rooms for everyone.
Pete Fry and Rebecca Bligh walked out before Council voted on putting these questions to you. Colleen Hardwick and Kareem Allam have publicly opposed it.
A YES vote is the first step. But only Mayor Ken Sim and ABC Vancouver have committed to enacting it.
Some people believe Vancouver can’t really change. We believe it can. We started the change. Now let’s finish it together.
Join us for this very important conversation. We want to hear from you. Sign up at: form.typeform.com/to/Fzi0b1a…

This election matters. Today is advance voting day, and it’s so important we get out and vote.
Change has started in Vancouver, but we need more. We know there’s more to do on public safety, and we haven’t gotten everything right.
Pete Fry has proposed dangerous policies that would take Vancouver backwards:
- More drug consumption sites
- Shelters that allow drug use in neighbourhoods across the city
- Fewer police
- Higher taxes
- Removing 11% of our roads, which is 220 km, and replacing them with bike lanes
The world is unstable right now. This is a time for stability and sound government.
The Public Safety Plebiscite lets Vancouver ban hard drug use in open public spaces and get our most vulnerable the care they need. It means cleaner streets and the change we all want. Pete Fry opposes it.
If you want Vancouver to move forward, not back to the encampments and disorder of the past, get out and vote today. And if you can, bring your friends out to vote as well.
Some say Vancouver can’t change. We say it can.
October 10, 13 or 17: vote YES and re-elect Mayor Ken Sim and your ABC Vancouver team.
