PRIVATE JET LOSES DOOR MID-AIR, MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING IN ABUJA, NIGERIA A serious aviation incident occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria, on October 15, after a Triton Aviation-operated Bombardier Challenger 600-series (CL60) business jet lost a door shortly after take-off, forcing the crew to declare a Mayday emergency. The aircraft, registered T7-SEI and operating as flight DWC052, was bound for Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. According to reports citing an air traffic control incident report, the aircraft departed Runway 22 at 16:17 UTC. At approximately 3,000 feet, about three nautical miles from the airport, the crew transmitted a “MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY” call after reporting that a door had opened in flight. Air traffic controllers immediately directed the aircraft back to Abuja, while airport fire and rescue crews and medical teams were placed on standby. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 22 at approximately 16:34 UTC, around 14 minutes after the distress call. After landing, controllers confirmed that the door was missing from the aircraft’s fuselage. In a further development, local farmers reportedly discovered the detached door in a farm in the Abuja area. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has reportedly deployed investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) confirmed the occurrence and referred the matter to the NSIB.
