“Amid industry’s shift towards digital platforms” What is this? The 2010s?
Nearly 100 Media Mulia employees will be placed on paid leave as part of a business rationalisation exercise. The publisher of Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo! said the move was aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability amid the industry's shift towards digital platforms. However, it remained committed to publishing print newspapers for its loyal readers. utusan.com.my/berita/2026/11…

Economist William Nordhaus has passed away. He's the author of one of my favorite papers on the economics of innovation, "Schumpeterian Profits in the American Economy: Theory and Measurement" (2004), in which he estimates how much of the social surplus (a rough measure of how much value is created for society) generated by innovation accrues to entrepreneurs and innovators. His answer? Only about 2.2%. That is, innovators, as economists like Julian L. Simon continually stressed in their writings, end up leaving the world a far better place. And this is important because many see wealthy innovators as a drag on the economy, with some even wanting to heavily tax their gains according to some ideal scheme of redistribution. And yet, these people are not social drags, but great social benefactors.

Tell Sam Altman that I use my 64GB of RAM to run print("Hello, World!"). I want him to know it's me.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."

People often say: "Why focus on economic growth and GDP per Capita? Other things are much more important than money." Here is the thing: many of those other things correlate strongly with GDP per capita.

My chili is powered by AI now
Rumors that chili maker Lao Gan Ma laid off 500+ workers due to AI have gone viral in China. Beneath Beijing’s positive messaging, many ordinary Chinese people are worried about AI and jobs. Lao Gan Ma recently touted a new AI-powered chili inspection system that uses high-speed industrial cameras that significantly outperform manual inspection. A stat about the company using this AI system to reduce human inspectors from 600 to 48 went viral on Chinese social media. The iconic, family-run company pushed back. But if you look at the data, the company has reduced headcount from 2,912 to 740 in the past few years while earning record revenues. Original story: m.jiemian.com/article/152425…

That look different from my understanding of hologram
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency has developed hologram technology to guide travellers through arrival procedures at KLIA Terminal 1. The digital avatar can answer queries in real time in multiple languages, including English and Mandarin, and provide information on the country’s entry requirements. 📷: Bernama

Many people are consumer-minded without concerns for other factors that include cybersecurity, industrial policy and even the future They highly discount the future, insisting on eating some ice-cream today and in fact, now
Anwar Ibrahim urged citizens to avoid Waze, citing data security concerns over the Israel-founded app and its access to users’ movement data. "Penggunaan aplikasi tempatan TuJu, yang dibangunkan oleh LLM, digalakkan sebagai alternatif," said the prime minister, noting that Waze is subject to Israeli government laws. 🧵 1
