NIGERIANS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🇳🇬 INEC has restricted the amount of time each person can spend on its website, so we need as many people as possible to help with this exercise. Here’s what we’re doing: We’re counting the number of registered voters in each polling unit for 2027 and comparing it with the number of registered voters in that same polling unit in 2023. INEC won’t show us the full register, so we have to do this ourselves, one polling unit at a time. Here’s how you can help. It takes just 60 seconds! STEP 1: Go to this link ⤵️ check.nigeriaelects.com STEP 2: Copy the code generated where it says “Your Polling Unit”. It’s the code containing numbers and dashes. STEP 3: Go to the INEC website and scroll down to “Find a Polling Unit”. Paste the code you copied into the PU Code box and click “Find”. STEP 4: The polling unit information will appear, including the number of registered voters. Copy ONLY the number of registered voters (the whole number, without the dashes). STEP 5: Return to the first website, paste the number into the space provided for registered voters and click Submit. That’s all! See the attached video for a visual guide. 60 seconds of your time can help us build a clearer picture of what’s happening with our voters’ register. Please participate and share this with other Nigerians. The more people who help, the more polling units we can cover. Let’s get to work! 🇳🇬

“Nigeria happened! Despite spending so much money on fuel for my generator, I can't continue anymore.” A young lady who bakes cakes says she wants to give out her cakes for free to people around Ikorodu, Lagos State, before they spoil due to a lack of electricity.

In all my years living in Nigeria , I cannot remember a time when a government approaching an election wasn’t at least making some visible effort to appease the electorate. Usually, a few months or weeks to an election, you begin to see the familiar theatrics: sudden responsiveness, attempts to make life a little more bearable, promises, concessions and the general performance of a government that remembers it needs people’s votes. But this? It’s quite something.

Conversations like this are sweet online, but when Spotify Wrapped drops, you won’t find these artists in yours except the same Rema and Ayra. That means you don’t consume their music, yet expect them to be global superstars. TikTok has given everyone a chance at stardom, independent or signed, it’s a level playing field. How many times have these artists turned heads with a potential mainstream record that runs numbers? Most don’t, so they lack mainstream appeal. It has nothing to do with talent; you can be extremely talented without it. In this era, the UG sound most of you criticized is now mainstream, yet some music heads still say it isn’t objectively good. Good music gets low visibility while viral sounds pop. Who’s to blame, the label or the audience? It’s the audience… yes, you! And if you own a label, who will you put your money on? Good music or music that already has an audience? The latter, so don’t blame the label, blame the consumers. If you listen to Magixx lately, he has been trying to tap into the mainstream with a different, familiar sound, and his branding has changed. I’ve said this before: the mainstream taste in music is terrible, and great artists are forced to bend their sound to blend.
I think Mavin Records needs to answer some serious questions about how they manage and promote their artists fr. Let’s look at the current roster.. Rema, Ayra Starr, Magixx, Bayanni, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, LADIPOE, Lovn and CupidSZN. Why does it sometimes feel like Rema and Ayra Starr are the only two artists whose careers receive massive attention and investment from the label? I’m not taking anything away from Rema or Ayra o.. They are incredibly talented and deserve their success. But what happens to the other talents on the roster? Does signing to the label mean you only get the full backing when you become commercially successful? This is where I think record labels get it wrong. They identify the artist who is making the most money and channel almost everything towards that person, while the others are left struggling for visibility. Sometimes, it goes beyond promotion. There are concerns about access to hit records, collaborations, resources and opportunities. You cannot give one artist all the necessary tools to succeed while leaving others with limited support, then allow the public to conclude that those other artists aren’t talented. Mavin needs to explain its approach to artist development. Is the goal to build every artist on the roster, or to focus on whoever is currently bringing in the most money? Because I refuse to believe that Rema and Ayra Starr are the only artists on that roster with the potential to become global superstars.

If you’re trying to make it off creativity in Nigeria, I want to let you know that you’re a mad person. I love you but you’re a mad person. I’m also a mad person and what’s madder is that I’m convinced that God won’t let me fail.
