It's written I hope in a lively,at times polemical style––not only for Hegel scholars but for anyone interested in what's at stake in our reading of philosophy, theory, and criticism @UChicagoPress

OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.
Gillian Rose: "The legal and social status of women, their dialectic of activity and passivity... is the difficulty, -the- aporia, of the critique of Enlightenment... "Woman" is the Lear of modernity." (The Broken Middle, 185)

Some people asked for the syllabus, here is its last iteration.
I'll be teaching this course at BISR beginning November 18. We'll be reading Aimé Césaire, Ghassan Kanafani, Lorraine Hansberry and thinking about "the entry of the chorus, of the ex- slaves themselves, as the arbiters of their own fate" (C.L.R. James).

Antisemitism is serious.
That’s precisely why it should never be weaponised as a political football. Labour doing so should disgust people across every community.
And all this while they continue to arm a genocide and lock up pensioners.
Antisemitism is a cancer in our politics.
We fought hard to root it out of our party.
We will not stand by and watch it infect public life again.

One of my fav passages in Capital:
"I demand a working day of normal length, and I demand it without any appeal to your heart, for in money matters sentiment is out of place. You may be a model citizen, perhaps a member of the RSPCA, and you may be in the odour of sanctity.../1

Sally Rooney in March: "By standing in solidarity with Palestine, we are learning how to fight for life on earth"

I'm the only Jewish leader of a political party.
I'm a victim of Antisemitism every day and I've made it clear Jewish people are welcome in my party.
You're a Prime Minister who arms a genocide and locks pensioners up for opposing it.
Andy Burnham rules out any partnership between Labour and the Green Party due to their controversial motion declaring "Zionism is racism".

"It is at the crux of gender that philosophy––love of wisdom––, the republic, and the legal fictions of personality explode. ... To change 'he' to 's/he' would ... assuage a symptom when it might argue instead with a cause." (Gillian Rose, DoN)

Recently, JGR editors interviewed Eyal Weizman about his new book, “Ungrounding: The Architecture of Genocide.” His analysis reveals the systematic uprooting of Palestinian lands and livelihoods that Israel has conducted in Gaza from 1948 to today. Find the link below.

Love Will Tear Us Apart
“When the symbolic bursts in loud bangs and smells of sulphur, when body parts appear in the wreckage of the symbolic, psychoanalysis must interrogate itself about its political investments: How can we not name the perpetrators? How do we work through the witnessing of an assault unleashed with such impunity? And more crucially, as Fanon would most certainly ask, how do we fend off the reproduction of the victimized collective against all our efforts to find the subject?”
— Nadia Bou Ali
“I have been thinking for a while about the need for a Sadeanism of the Left, but without really knowing what that meant. And I think you’ve hit upon its first thesis: against fraternity. Or maybe it could be: liberté, égalité… sobriété. We know that Marx detested the idea of a brotherhood of man. It was all part of the German ideology he despised.”
