And none of the founding fathers had a sense of direction ..... they were under the impression that they had reached India
I don't mean offense to anybody, but none of our founding fathers were Hindu. None of our founding fathers were Muslim, and none of our founding fathers were Jewish. This was built on Christian principles, and we can never forget that.

"Indian people are like fucking animals." While waiting to board a flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi, I moved to the side of a crowd in front of the jet bridge to catch up with my mother in line when I heard this man behind me say those words. His name is Joaquin Bonilla Garcia. He's a Spanish passport holder. When I called him out on his blatant racism, he remained silent. After the flight, upon realizing I had filed a complaint with the airline, he tried to tell me there was a "misunderstanding." But I heard him loud and clear. I'm sharing this for two reasons. 1) I believe in freedom of speech, and I believe just as strongly that words have meaning. I think hateful statements should bear consequences. I couldn't track him down, but I would appreciate your help in identifying his community and holding him to account. 2) Racism is alive and well, even (especially?) in unlikely settings. I wasn't expecting to hear this kind of language on a flight within South Asia, surrounded by South Asian people, from a tourist who was visiting the region voluntarily. As an Indian American, I feel the pressure to be extra conscious of my behavior when I'm a visitor in another country. Clearly, others feel the opposite, even more empowered to behave badly when they are away from home.

Bloomberg interns at it again. Exports up 165-fold. Value addition 15% to 23%. One in four iPhones assembled in India. Subsidies judged by wages alone. Exports, supplier networks and capacity count for nothing. Screwdrivergiri built Shenzhen without consulting Bloomberg :)

A typical case of “kicking away the ladder.” It seems even more brutal when India is already climbing the mobile phone value chain. Many who doubted India's PLI scheme for mobile phones (LSEM) seem reluctant to acknowledge the recent progress. Let me explain. (1/n)

Sometimes you take the stairs, sometimes escalators or elevators. Of course, another option is to stand still, content with low-productivity agriculture and services. India has decided not to. That does not mean every industrial policy will succeed. (12/n) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

One stays one's entire life in India and yet cannot completely understand the diversity and complexity of the politics of the World's most diverse country on so many parameters, but Mrs Lydia Polgreen flies in from New York, spends a week in the Capital of India and has a message for Indians and rest of the World. This is beyond science.

Another strong month for India's FDI inflow - $7.5b (new equity). That equals $70b over 12 months. Up 24% year-on-year and nearing the Jio-fueled FDI spike in mid-2021. Annualized Gross FDI crosses $100b for the first time ever. rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/Bul…

Proud of Indian (Malayali) Muslims, like Air Marshal Kondengalara Aboo Ahamed Sanjeeb, serving India. There needs to be more of them. Pakistani Army’s Pet-Mullahs and their Bhagoda Muhajirs/Similar sympathisers can cope all the way to the moon and back!

A genuine question, Lydia. What, in your opinion, constitutes “an extraordinary protest?” Let’s look at participation levels. How many people on the streets would constitute “extraordinary”: 5,000 people or 50,000? Arguably, the crowds in the streets are nowhere near the upper edge of this range. Then there’s spread. In a subcontinent-sized country, it's largely localized to a small pocket of Delhi, the designated protest site—with no sign of that “extraordinary protest” outside it. Then there’s scale. Even 50,000 people mean little in a country of 1.4 billion. India is not France, and whatever size it is, it ain’t “extraordinary.” Finally, whatever protests, they constitute the same old, tried, tired, and electorally decimated group of people who are loud and have even louder outlets in the West. They failed to expand their circle of influence anywhere near the “extraordinary” level. Not even close. Most Indians don’t care much about these leftists. You guys can keep writing narratives like that for elite Western readers. Indians give two hoots about it. What is extraordinary is your level of effort to put lipstick on a pig.

Around 1,700 years ago, a woman in India put more than 3,500 karshapanas (an ancient Indian silver punch-marked coin) into craft guilds to fund medicines for sick monks. The obligation was meant to continue even as the guilds changed. Her name was Vishnudatta. This old impression of her inscription at Nashik preserves the arrangement. 1,000 karshapanas to one guild. 2,000 to another. 500 to a 3rd, whose name is now missing. The oil-millers held another deposit, but the amount is unreadable. That makes 3,500+ karshapanas in all. Why give the money to guilds if the purpose was medicines? She was setting up a perpetual endowment. The guilds held the deposits and owed a continuing return to provide medicines for the sick monks of the monastery on Mount Trirasmi. This was funding for supplies over time, not money for a single purchase. E. Senart, who edited the record, explains that the obligation continued even if the guilds changed their constitution. It bound the guild as it existed then and as it might exist in the future. The inscription gives her family too: daughter of Agnivarman, wife of Rebhila, mother of Visvavarma. It calls her a lay devotee. The medicines were for monks "of whatever sect and origin" living in that monastery. The date is the ninth year of the Abhira king Isvarasena, generally placed in the 3rd century CE. The inscription was in print by 1865. Senart's later edition includes this impression, the reading and a translation. I have attached that translation with the relevant lines marked. You can see the medicine provision, the deposits and his explanation of the continuing obligation on the same page. Source: E. Senart, "The Inscriptions in the Caves at Nasik", Epigraphia Indica VIII, inscription 15, pp. 88-89, Plate VII. Publication history: H. Luders, Epigraphia Indica X, Appendix, entry 1137. Photo 1: Vishnudatta's medicine endowment at Nashik, recorded in the ninth year of King Isvarasena. Historical impression of inscription 15, published in Epigraphia Indica, Vol. VIII, Plate VII. Photo 2: The published translation records Vishnudatta's guild deposits and the continuing obligation to fund medicines. Epigraphia Indica, Vol. VIII, p. 89. Yellow highlights added.

Curry is a Malayalam word for a spicy side dish with gravy. So, we have meen (fish)curry in many different ways (paalucurry, thilappicha curry, vatticha curry etc), irachi (meat) curry, motta (egg curry). Since Europeans first came to Kerala for spice, the term stuck and they forgot where they got it from. Hindians are perplexed. In Tamil, curry is called Kuzhambu (Kuzhambu means medicinal ointment in Malayalam)

I think the damage has now become permanent and the India US relationship is beyond repair. As someone from India the inevitable has happened and maybe for good. America will still attract global talent only not that much from India. Indians are now heading for Europe and increasingly staying back too. The slowing down of the braindrain will help India develop its own technology ecosystem which it badly needs. Things will evetually become better in India as time progresses. For over 2000 years Indians did well, the decline happened starting 1750s-1800s and evetually India will come around this phase as well. What would serve India well is the Historial Memory that India should inculcate and preserve the way it has been treated by all and the way Indians have been vilified and subjected to global hatred driven by nations with agenda against the rise of India. Indians should do well to remember it as Civilisational Memory.

Huge. Bo French is from Forth Worth, where everyone hates him despite coming from a rich family. The Republican mayor of the city just endorsed his opponent. There are still decent Texas Republicans. This version of the party needs to lose so they can have a chance.
"Jon Rosenthal is the right choice for Texas Railroad Commissioner. Jon has the experience, proven leadership, and focus on what matters most to our state - smart regulation and policy in partnership with Texans and industry leaders. The Texas Railroad Commission is not a place for culture wars and bigotry - it’s the foundation of the Texas economy, and we cannot afford to hand it to the wrong leader. Vote for Jon Rosenthal." - @MayorMattie, Mayor of Fort Worth
