Personally, the reason I think ZUN's statement about losing to AI is foolish is because he himself is defeated by it in the first place, making new chapters of CoLA and print works obsessing over the technology and putting it in the backgrounds—he's consumed by it more than us.

franchises like this are better off dead than left as a husk of their former selves. Killing them off is an act of mercy at this point

Let's now complain about the new Castlevania and kill the franchise for good this time, i guess.
I used to be like this a few years ago, but after several more mid-to-bad releases, my inner gatekeeper went extinct. If the interesting fanworks are what got and keep you here, real shit. I still disrespect Lost Word only fans, though, sorry.

Touhou fandom is made up of people who don't play the games, mocking people for not playing the games.
Both of them will yell to post 1cc, both bluffing.

AI straight up ruined any excitement out of the game fantranslation scene. Every day I get excited about a project being released and it's pure slop made by someone who didn't even play the game they prompted Claude to translate and it reads like complete shit for mouthbreathers

maybe, but im just anxious about making a space long settled by adult otaku culture more inviting to kids because a space like that gives durable camouflage to predators. this may just be part of my distrust of kids becoming more open on the internet in general though
Y'know, I feel rather uncomfortable that Touhou's officially trying to appeal to Japanese kids more lately. It's like trying to herd more kids into an adult-oriented space that's been long established with inappropriate content for them and opens them up to early gacha play.

How is this even an equivalent comparison at all? MLP was designed from the ground up to be a kid's show specifically for little girls whereas touhou started as a group of uni student's project intended to be sold to other adults at what is basically japanese Comic Con.
In Mokou's defense, when you can spawn infinite fire from yourself to shoot at people but lack the equal ability to shoot infinite water, it's going to become very challenging to control what happens after your output if you don't have a cancel fire ability button in your kit.
Kinda sad how buried this is when this information literally proves my point that even officially the games don't commit to a younger audience as the target.

Just to confirm the info here, according to Sony and Nintendo stores, Koumakyou New Classic is rated ESRB Everyone 10+, Hyouibana AoCF and Gouyoku Ibun SFW are rated ESRB Teen.
I'm perfectly willing to call Touhou tween and teen content, but I'm gonna draw the line at actual kids, and this is completely based on what I've experienced with the official stuff. I think it's, frankly weird, to claim that Touhou was ever fully intended for children.
MLP is a bad comparison because all of the adult fans that formed around the show are entering the target fandom of children vs the other way around. Touhou's themes can be a bit strong for young kids, so I think it can afford to be a little pickier in which audience it targets.
This whole thing is blown out of proportion, in my opinion, because too many people are taking that tweet like I'm doing some bizarre attempt at gatekeeping when I'm drawing only the tiniest of lines for myself, lol. No, I'm not gonna kick all the 14 year olds out, it's ok.
Did the language really come off that strongly? Rather than making a fuss, I figured I could simply express a worry of mine that I've felt over a recent trend, but I'm not trying to cancel anything or anyone over it. I had negative fan experiences when younger in my perspective.
