I have written to the Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi and the Honble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare @JPNadda, urging their immediate intervention to reduce the qualifying percentile for admission to prevent 4068 medical seats from going vacant in the academic year 2026–27. The exceptionally high qualifying cut-off this year, following the leakage of the answer sheet and consequential cancellation and re-conduct of NEET-UG 2026, has raised serious concerns. The Union Government must act within the applicable rules to ensure these seats are not left unutilised. #NEETUG2026 #MBBSSeats #MedicalEducation #Healthcare #FillVacantSeats
4,068 MBBS SEATS VACANT. INDIA CANNOT AFFORD TO WASTE A SINGLE SEAT! At a time when India is already struggling to meet the WHO’s recommended doctor-to-population ratio, the reported vacancy of 4,068 MBBS seats at the beginning of the fourth round of NEET-UG 2026–27 counselling is a matter of grave concern. The qualifying cut-off has risen exceptionally high this year, even as the NEET-UG examination had to be cancelled and reconducted because of a paper leak. Thousands of aspiring medical students risk losing an opportunity, while valuable medical college infrastructure, faculty and resources may go underutilised for an entire academic year. Every vacant MBBS seat is a lost opportunity to train a future doctor. I urge the Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi to intervene immediately and direct the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare @JPNadda, in consultation with the National Medical Commission @NMC_BHARAT, to reduce the NEET-UG 2026 qualifying percentile across all categories to the extent necessary to fill the vacant seats, strictly in accordance with merit and applicable standards. After the fourth round, conduct a special stray vacancy round to ensure that eligible candidates get a fair opportunity before these seats lapse. Students must not pay the price for an exceptional examination year. India’s medical education capacity must not go to waste when the country needs more doctors. Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi, the time to act is NOW! #NEETUG2026 #MBBSSeats #MedicalEducation #Healthcare #FillVacantSeats @mkstalin @Udhaystalin @arivalayam

Addressing the annual Mupperum Vizha event at Kalaignar Arangam at the DMK headquarters, Hon'ble Party President Thalaivar @mkstalin said that “Tamil Nadu has turned into a hunting ground for criminals. Under the current incompetent TVK Government, the only competition is between two things: power cuts and sickle cuts (murders and murder attacks). “Every day, there are murders to the extent that it is difficult to keep count, and Tamil Nadu has become a 'hunting ground for criminals."

Sad to hear that Payal Mehta (@payalmehta100), Senior Journalist, New Delhi (@CNNnews18), is no more. She collapsed during a visit to Mumbai, and around 2 am she was taken to the hospital. Before any treatment could be administered, she passed away. She was a soft-spoken senior journalist who interacted with MPs across party lines and kept us informed with updated political and administrative developments in Delhi. Recently, I attended her father’s memorial prayer meeting held at the Constitution Club. It’s a great loss to the fourth estate. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. May the departed soul rest in peace.

Today, the Finance Ministry announced charges on RuPay debit cards and UPI transactions above Rs. 2,000, the very methods that ordinary people like street vendors, flower vendors, tea shops, auto-rickshaws, taxis, grocery stores, and others use daily. On 10 August 2026, during the debate on the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, I raised this concern in the Rajya Sabha. The Hon. FM @nsitharaman assured the House that small vendors would not face any charges. Yet, within just 35 days, that promise has been broken. What I warned in Parliament has come true. The notification allows banks, etc., to impose an additional fee on UPI users for every transaction above the prescribed ceiling of Rs 2000. The Hon’ble Finance Minister’s assurances have been flouted with impunity, and she must intervene and withdraw the notification!

I participated in a webinar on the topic: “Has India’s Reservation System Gone Too Far? Is 2027 the Year to End It? - Merit, Equality and the Future of a Developed India.” The Indian Lawyers Association (ILA) organised this important discussion, and Mr Navneet Chugh @navneet_chugh, CPA, Attorney, Managing Partner, Chugh LLP, and Founder, ILA, moderated the session. I shared the platform with: Mr C.S. Vaidyanathan, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court Ms Sonia Mathur, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court Mr Huzefa Aziz Ahmadi, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court Ms Mahalakshmi Pavani, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court Mr Abishek A. Rashtogi, Founder, Chambers of Abhishek A. Rashtogi Mr Ravi Prakash Mehrotra, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court Mr Pranay Joshi, Panel Lawyer for the State of Madhya Pradesh My position is clear: reservation must continue for the SC, ST and OBC communities until the last person from these communities attains equal rights and receives the benefits of equal opportunity. We cannot invoke “merit” to deny those who are still struggling to access opportunity. Merit must go hand in hand with equality of opportunity and social justice. At the same time, we must address the reality of lakhs of vacant State and Union Government posts, including unfilled reserved vacancies, across departments nationwide. Reservation can achieve its constitutional purpose only when sanctioned posts are actually filled. @aifsoj

The Justice MM Ismail Commission, established specifically to investigate atrocities against MISA detainees, recorded in Chapter X of its report the testimonies of Hon'ble @mkstalin, Mr Arcot Veerasamy, and others to illustrate how they were ill-treated inside prison during the detention. The report notes that Mr MK Stalin, who was lodged in the 9th block as a MISA detainee alongside Mr Chitti Babu, MP, and others, was transferred to a different special quarantine along with some other MISA detainees. Mr Chitti Babu has documented this in his personal diary. The Commission submitted its report to the AIADMK government, led by M.G. Ramachandran, on 26 September 1977. The Govt accepted the report, and it initiated disciplinary action against the erring prison officials. Now, how can @CTR_Nirmalkumar, as a law minister, make such false, distorted, defamatory statements about our leader, MK Stalin, and why are some mainstream media outlets giving prominence to such fake, misleading, and false news and carrying it? The Law Minister is indulging in unlawful and illegal acts. Both @CTR_Nirmalkumar and the offending media are co-conspirators in these offences and are committing criminal acts, for which they are equally liable to prosecution and punishment. @mkstalin @Udhaystalin @arivalayam @DMKITwing @dmk_youthwing
The detention order under MISA of our Hon'ble leader @mkstalin, followed by the Ismail Commission report dated 26.9.1977, which inquired into allegations of beating up and ill-treatment of MISA detainees in Madras Central Jail during the period from February 1976 to February 1977, will disprove the false narratives of @CTR_Nirmalkumar and his unrelenting, slanderous, vilifying, abusive, motivated and malicious allegations against our leader that are contrary to official records. The time has come to initiate criminal proceedings for your criminal acts, for the law does not grant immunity just because you are a law minister. @mkstalin @Udhaystalin @arivalayam @DMKITwing @dmk_youthwing

In matters of state governance, a change in government cannot justify a change in infrastructure Policy after so much public money and time have been spent on that infrastructure. Tamil Nadu’s development cannot be sacrificed to the short-sightedness of TVK political philosophy. **************************************** The TVK Government’s decision to cancel the Parandur Greenfield Airport is the abandonment of years of technical study, planning, negotiations, land acquisition and public expenditure, without putting forward a single credible alternative. This decision is driven by political madness, not public interest or rational governance. After years of technical studies, expert evaluation, Central approval, land acquisition, and public expenditure, scrapping the project without a viable alternative is reckless, irrational, and an abdication of responsibility. I have repeatedly raised the urgent need for Parandur Airport in Parliament and personally pursued the matter with the Hon’ble Union Minister for Civil Aviation. I have consistently highlighted the need for Parandur, its technical feasibility, and Chennai Airport's urgent infrastructure requirements. This is an issue I have pursued for years, both inside and outside Parliament, in the public interest, and it is beyond the TN Government. Let me tell you that Parandur was not selected casually. The Airports Authority of India examined multiple locations, including Tirupporur, Parandur, Pannur and Padalam. Several alternatives were found unsuitable because of airspace conflicts, obstacles, inadequate contiguous land, existing industrial development and proximity to restricted zones. Parandur and Pannur were shortlisted, and Parandur ultimately emerged as the preferred site because it offered the best combination of land availability, runway geometry, connectivity and long-term expansion potential. The project began in August 2022, when TIDCO was appointed as the nodal agency. In April 2025, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation granted in-principle approval. A project estimated at approximately ₹ 27,400- ₹ 30,000 crore was ready to move toward implementation. Approximately 5,320–5,746 acres had been identified, including around 3,750–3,800 acres of private land. More than 1,100 acres had already been transferred, with compensation paid ranging from approximately ₹15 lakh to ₹1.1 crore per acre. A rehabilitation master plan was also prepared for around 1,000 affected families across 13 villages, including compensation, alternate land, and other rehabilitation measures. And now, after all this, the project is cancelled. What is the alternative? Nothing. No alternative site.
No fresh technical feasibility study.
No timeline.
No Central approval.
No land acquisition plan.
No rehabilitation framework.
No answer as to when Chennai will actually get its second airport. Chennai’s existing airport is confined to roughly 1,300–1,320 acres. Compare that with approximately 5,100+ acres at Delhi, 5,500 acres at Hyderabad and 4,000 acres at Bengaluru. Chennai’s airport is effectively landlocked by dense urban development, the Adyar, defence land and surrounding infrastructure. The Government may point to the proposed Fifth Terminal and increased passenger capacity at Meenambakkam. But that does not answer the fundamental problem. A Fifth Terminal can process more passengers. It cannot create additional land for runways, taxiways, aircraft stands or airside expansion. It cannot remove the physical constraints imposed by the Adyar, defence land, surrounding urbanisation and existing obstacles. Most importantly, increasing terminal capacity does not automatically mean Chennai can operate more wide-body and larger Code F aircraft movements at scale, particularly for long-haul international operations. Aviation capacity is not determined by terminal floor space alone. You need runways, taxiways, aircraft stands, safety clearances and sufficient airside land. 1/2
The TVK government @CMOTamilnadu, driven by political hostility, is intent on sabotaging the upcoming Parandur Airport, which was planned and implemented by our former Hon CM, Thalaivar @mkstalin, to develop a proud Tamil Nadu with world-class infrastructure. My attached slides will demonstrate that Chennai requires Parandur Airport to raise its status on the global stage as a leading aviation hub. Let us come together for this noble cause. @Udhaystalin

My heartfelt best wishes on the occasion of celebrating 'Milad-un-Nabi,' the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, who taught the world love, compassion, generosity, and brotherhood! May the principles championed by the Prophet—such as "Love is the path" and "Humanity is the highest virtue"—endure forever in our society.

A heartfelt tribute marked the 108th birth anniversary of the late B.P. Mandal, former Chief Minister of Bihar and Chairman of the Government of India's Backwards Classes Commission. His report laid the foundation for allocating 27% OBC reservations across India. We reflect on his significant contributions to society as the chief architect of OBC reservations. The Mandal Commission report continues to play a vital role in shaping affirmative action policies and promoting social justice. I urge the Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi to halt the flawed caste census, develop a unique OBC caste code nationwide in consultation with state governments, and then undertake a new caste census. Until a new reservation formula is devised based on this fresh census, the Hon'ble PM @narendramodi must enforce 50% reservation for OBCs through constitutional amendments. @mkstalin @Udhaystalin @arivalayam @aifsoj

There appears to be a serious misunderstanding of parliamentary etiquette in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by Hon'ble HR&CE Minister @RameshOffcl. The Chief Minister @CMOTamilnadu is the head of the Government, the foremost among the Ministers, and the Leader of the State, but not supreme within the Assembly. The Chair, Hon'ble Speaker, holds the supreme authority in the House. Members only rise to show respect to the Chair and in circumstances specifically prescribed by parliamentary convention - not merely because a Minister or the Chief Minister walks in. Even in Parliament, there is no general convention of Members standing up to greet the Hon'ble Prime Minister every time he enters the House. Therefore, instead of lecturing the Leader of the Opposition @Udhaystalin on whether he stood up for the Chief Minister, the Hon’ble HR&CE Minister @RameshOffcl should first learn the basic rules, conventions, and etiquette of the great House. What makes this even more astonishing is that the Government itself organised a two-day orientation and training programme for MLAs on June 16 and 17 at Kalaivanar Arangam, specifically to familiarise members with Assembly procedures, rules, parliamentary conventions, and House conduct such as these. It seems the Hon’ble Minister may not have attended the programme or somehow missed the most basic lesson: the Legislative Assembly is not a Government office where elected representatives are expected to stand and salute the Chief Minister. The Legislative Assembly is an institution of democracy - not a place for personal loyalty displays to the Chief Minister. Learn the rules first. Then lecture others. Be that as it may, the ruling of Hon'ble Speaker @JCDPrabhakar puts an end to Ministers' solicited respect for the Hon'ble Chief Minister inside the Assembly. @mkstalin @arivalayam @DMKITwing @dmk_youthwing

🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳Kudos to the Honble Chief Justice of the Madras High Court and his companion of judges for issuing revised circular and giving “Tamil Thai Vazhthu” the first place in its Independence Day celebrations, followed by Vande Mataram the National Song and then National Anthem. Congratulations to the Bar Association of Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court for first raising this issue. Importantly, the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, does not prescribe any order for singing these songs. The Act specifically prevents disturbance during the singing of the National Anthem and National Song Vande Mataram ; it does not prescribe a sequence of songs. This would rightly uphold the pride of the Tamil language, culture, and Tamil Nadu’s identity. தமிழ் வெல்லும் 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

My speech on the Bill to increase the strength of Supreme Court judges. Thank you, Chairman. Sir, I have three demands. One is regional benches of Supreme Court. Sir, a bench at Chennai, has to be established because Chennai is a metropolitan city. Dr. Ambedkar said Article 32 is the heart and soul of the Constitution. Therefore, access to justice should be made easily available. A bench of Supreme Court should be established in Chennai. Number one. Number two, sir, with regard to the diversity, there's a diversity deficit, sir, in the High Court as well as in Supreme Court, sir. In fact, if you see the data that has been given by the Law Ministry itself, sir, out of 593 judges appointed, sir, 26 belongs to Scheduled Castes, that is 4.38%. 14 belongs to Scheduled Tribe, that is 2.36%. And 80 belongs to Backward Class, that is 13.49%. And, sir, upper caste belongs to 80%. Therefore, there is a diversity deficit. A constitutional amendment should be brought in to compel that the diversity should be followed in the appointment of judges, sir. Number three, sir, the age limit, sir. Sir, the age the retirement age of the judges of the High Court and Supreme Court has to be increased. High Court from 62 to 65 and Supreme Court, sir, from 65 to 70 years, sir. For that, a constitutional amendment has to be brought in, sir. I would request the Law Minister... sir, no Scheduled Tribe judges has been appointed.

DMK leader P Wilson's phenomenal record as Member of Parliament continues. He has 96% attendance, has participated in 856 debates, asked 449 questions and given 16 Private Member's Bills. Miles ahead of other Tamil Nadu MPs. From PRS India 👇
I have moved a notice under Rule 267 before Parliament seeking to pass the following resolution:- “If immediate release of 7000 cusses water is not done, the standing Kuruvai crop in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruchirappalli, and the other delta districts will wither; the ensuing Samba cultivation will be imperilled; and the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu risks being reduced to a desert, destroying the livelihoods of lakhs of farmers and agricultural labourers. Karnataka is simultaneously pressing the Mekedatu Project, which would further impound the river upstream to the grave detriment of the lower riparian State, and against which the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has unanimously resolved on 19.06.2026. I therefore request that the business of the House be suspended under Rule 267 to enable an immediate discussion and to pass a resolution that the Union Government direct the Karnataka Government to immediately release 7,000 cusecs of water per day at Biligundlu to make good the backlog due to Tamil Nadu as per the Hon'ble Supreme Court's judgment dated 16 February 2018, stop the Mekedatu Project completely, and constitute a Tribunal under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956 as per Tamil Nadu Government Letter dated 04.03.2026”
