Dodds is right that the Government should discuss its approach to taxation. It should tax the rich.
Instead, the Government has self-imposed restraints that have lead them to decimate assistance for the world's poorest - those experience famine, conflict, disaster and disease.

Our letter to the Prime Minister expressing deep concern regarding his decision to cut ODA. Cutting ODA to raise defence spending is a false economy. The aid budget is an important instrument for long-term stability and economic partnership. We hope the government will reconsider

APPG on Global SRHR Chair Sarah Champion has responded to the announcement of cuts to UK ODA.
Cuts to ODA are "pulling the rug from under some of the world’s most vulnerable people" and women and girls often suffer disproportionately from cuts to SRHR services.
Chair @SarahChampionMP has responded to the Government’s announcement of cuts to the UK’s foreign aid budget. Find out more👇

ALT Sarah Champion MP, Chair of the International Development Committee, said: “I urge the Prime Minister to rethink today’s announcement. Cutting the aid budget to fund defence spending is a false economy that will only make the world less safe. Conflict is often an outcome of desperation, climate and insecurity; our finances should be spent on preventing this, not the deadly consequences."

Prison is no place for pregnant women. This news of a pregnant woman's rights being so clearly breached is shocking, but sadly not surprising. We stand with @we_level_up & others calling for an end to the detention of pregnant women. #NoBirthsBehindBars

Cutting ODA from 0.5% to 0.3% by 2027 is deeply shortsighted and doesn’t make anyone safer.
The deep irony is that development money can prevent wars & is used to patch up the consequences of them, cutting this support is counterproductive and I urge the government to rethink.

🚨 “We are profoundly shocked and disappointed that the government has made the reckless decision to raid the already diminished ODA budget—reducing it to less than half of our legal obligation,” says co-CEO Hannah Bond

Spending 30% of your income 20 years ago on a house with a garden isn’t the same as spending 30% of your income to live in a box room in a HMO you share with 5 other people.
The amount spent by young people on housing in Britain has not really changed in 35 years
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Additional context needed: Homeowners and, in particular, renters are increasingly getting less floorspace and more crowded accommodation for the same proportionate spend.

The plot excludes rising numbers of adults living with their parents, but this is noted in the caption.

So much drama about pensioners paying tax on State Pension because of massive triple lock increases. Younger people with higher state pension ages, no DB pensions, no SERPS/S2P, yet funding billions more SP each year are shaking their heads in disbelief.

Your regular reminder that *thousands* of accounts from women and their family and friends alongside them report activity like this to be harassment. These people know that - they just choose to ignore it because they believe they're right and women should deal with it. #backoff

I spoke to @shanti_das yesterday (after I recovered) about why safe access zones are so essential around abortion clinics. It's not just 'silent prayer' - it's a set of coordinated activities designed to undermine women's decision-making and the provision of legal healthcare.
Today's Observer covering why safe access zones around abortion clinics are so essential - “Some of the protesters had huge placards with graphic images of foetuses. Others held candlelit vigils and said prayers. One scattered baby clothes in the bushes."

Amazed so many people are surprised. Johnson never gave a damn about Ukraine. He cared, as always, about his own interests, which were served at the time by helping Ukraine to make himself look assertive and statesmanlike. If you thought differently, you weren’t paying attention.
Trump is not betraying Ukraine. But it is time for Europeans to stop panicking, stop whingeing - and step up
