balaji bought farcaster and banned all the builders so the best he got was bribing someone $2k to build a "client" (see screenshot) meanwhile, we have over 20 clients on Hypersnap being built now with many already fully functioning replacements for farcaster and we're doing out of sheer passion. your friends are on the fork.
It's been around a day since I set this up, and we already have over 10 clients/apps listed! I've heard of more being built, so if you're building something on hypersnap and it's not on this list, please get in touch/submit a PR!

Fun fact: App-agnostic links are possible! apron.chat has defines a scheme (apron:) and a neutral URL prefix (link.apron.chat) which apps "register" with their OS to capture. I can post a link from one client, and you can open it on a different client.

I'm happy to present to you, 'The Fall of Farcaster' - A fictional Disney-esque villain anthem themed around the @farcaster_xyz acquisition. At the time, my sources were telling me @masknetwork acquisition was looking quite realistic, and I thought a little satirical piece would be fun to make. Turns out, building something on an unconfirmed prediction is not always the best thing to do, as the outcome now is obviously very different lmao. But I think the theme still rings true, so I pushed it to production. This could perhaps be counted in the Farcaster multiverse where Farcaster was acquired by Mask. About 3 weeks ago, I came across this wonderfully villainous song on Suno produced by NovaPulse Club (Now Lavyinx) suno.com/song/c8ac65c6-27bc-……, NovaPulse Club graciously allowed me to remix their song for use, and now here it is :) Also, just advising I've got nothing against @suji_yan 😂 We know you have a good sense of humour. You do make a splendid villain in this clip, hope you enjoy.

The most difficult part of this entire struggle is trying to convey information about a deeply technical debate to non-technical people. Statuette is undoubtedly one of the best at succeeding in conveying this. Yesterday, the network state team published an update to snapchain, which took effect two hours after release. This broke replication to any peer who did not upgrade. When I worked for merkle, we had a process for releases, so that non-emergency (which this was) updates gave node runners an entire month to upgrade. When neynar took over, with no announcement to change in process, they shortened it to a week window. And apparently, as of yesterday, it has been shortened further to two hours. This is fine when you're rolling out code to your own fleet. You control it! But when you roll it out, with no announcement, to a p2p network, you're telling people that their nodes don't matter. And that message is true anyway, because any node that isn't theirs is actually read only. When you hear someone posting messages to a snapchain node they own, it doesn't actually participate in any meaningful way – read only nodes simply forward on the message to the NS-controlled validators. Hypersnap will change this in the next release for our side of the fork – we will resume a more reasonable upgrade cadence, and we will cut ties with their validator set so that any node can actually participate in building data on the network. We aren't surprised to see what happened with the new (sort of) snapchain team, and our bar is so low for disappointment with their team that this is essentially a non-event. They embody neither the ideals of decentralization, nor the technical skills to achieve it.
GM! Today on @farcaster_xyz Resistance HQ Diaries: Staryear 2026 | Day 9 of the Resistance Our new overlords assured us we are absolutely FREE to leave once they execute the cockroaches infesting their APIs. I fully support this. Those bad roaches kept telling us to bend the knee! However, today we found out sleeping is not compatible with freedom... Who knew? 🤷‍♀️ This morning, my fellow peasants and I were trying to find out whether the cockroaches had been taken care of. To our surprise, we found several farcaster clients frozen in time! One GitHub archaeological expedition later, we discovered a sneaky chain upgrade whose final activation schedule was merged barely two hours before it took effect! Perhaps digital felons aren’t on the mailing list but we feel grateful for the warning hidden inside the PS about the nodes that would stop working. So it turns out, decentralization means spending your Saturday morning figuring out what our new overlords changed while we were asleep. We’re still investigating the frozen clients and those “bend the knee” errors. But overall, the decentralized democracy experience is going beautifully. My casts eventually escaped through one client and appeared in another. We are now communicating with our homes via digital carrier pigeons. 🙏 to be continued…

Since I can say whatever I want here: Yo @balajis why did you had to fuckin’ kill my favorite social network? And most importantly why are you censoring ogs that shaped the little game you just acquired for no reasons? I’ve seen a lot on that platform, but this is unacceptable.

People on @farcaster_xyz are asking questions on behalf of a large cohort of us who were banned retroactively (for ridiculous reasons) They are actively misleading people because I hit that appeal button on Friday and have heard nothing back

they genuinely think you're stupid. the API didn't have a bug. it was intentionally made read only for banned and non-yes-voting users. The API literally returned a response that stated the reason of your read-only status. When software literally prevents you from doing things, and tells you the reason explicitly was something they put into effect, there is no world in which you can call that a "bug". Those APIs are _still_ read only for users that voted no or were banned. No idea if non-voting users can use it now. You would know these things already, if they hadn't banned users that have called this out. I saw @jchaskin22 asked about this on farcaster, but of course, responding would be of minimal benefit, as they filter out my replies on their client. So tagging you here so you have direct confirmation from someone who has concrete knowledge of what happened from the other side.
Mistakes were made in an API I controlled.

A nightly update to hypersnap has been published. It should aid in preventing suppression from the snapchain side. If we continue to find anomalous behaviors ahead of the PoW fork, we will proceed with an immediate validator swap run by community nodes ahead of the PoW fork to prevent further obstruction of banned users. The internet perceives censorship as damage and routes around it. It would be wise to remember that.
Update: ahead of the update, we restarted our node once again, with a new peer id. Suddenly, messages are now making it to snapchain again. Interesting! Caveat: We rolled back the peer id afterwards, and messages continue to make it to snapchain. Hypersnap node operators should remain on alert – in April, snapchain team added a function (only used in tests in any public code) to blacklist peer ids. Do with this info what you will.

Been sitting in the voiceless void over the weekend, deciding what to do with this pledge of loyalty requested by the new owners of @farcaster_xyz . I've made a lot of friends on the purple app and admire many people over there for what they're doing.

Decentralized social is important. Yesterday's actions by Farcaster, preemptively banning long-serving community members as an AI decided they "didn't fit the Singaporean citizen model" is frankly insane - and alongside being an example of AI used with the worst possible intentions, it also added to the importance of actual decentralized social. We're working with our friends within the Farcaster Community (the real one) to lend our dev resources towards ensuring the continuity of the protocol under HyperSnap & Quilibrium, spearheaded by @cass_on_mars. We believe this symbiotic relationship will be beneficial to both our community at imgnAI, as well as to the Farcaster community - and the large overlap of users active on both of our platforms. We all believe that decentralization is the way forward - and we want to ensure that we're doing everything in our power to keep decentralized social and its talented pool of builders & creators live and kicking.

The new owner of farcaster, @balajis, has banned me from their side of the fork. Absolutely incredible work. So anyway, we're doing the hard fork of farcaster and would love to hear name ideas for our non-cancerous side. Spinning up an emergency group chat: t.me/+4eYOApUSw500Yzgx

Banned from @balajis’s new @farcaster_xyz for making anti Flock posts. You can’t make this up. If you’re still using it just know who you’re dealing with and what their principles are.

Just sharing a little fun I had the other day. There's this thing called @poidhxyz, which is a Crypto Social Bounties platform run by @kennyistyping. And as an avid Farcaster user, I was instigated by @Yerbearserker to a bounty - which was to make a "previously on Farcaster..." video (Given all the changes lately). The bounty was set for 0.0245 ETH (approx $60). Naturally I like Farcaster and making videos, so the bounty was that little extra motivation to give it a go. 2 weeks of toiling later, my video was complete and I submitted my first ever bounty on POIDH. "Farcaster - The Ultimate Casters' Collection - Season 1 & 2" A music compilation commercial to look back on the last couple of years at Farcaster. So, the votes went through, and after a few days... I got the announcement that I had won the bounty! (Hooray!) Not too shabby for a hobby craft. If you haven't seen the video, I've pumped it full of Farcaster lore and humor. Let me know if you enjoyed the vid. Also, if you haven't give @poidhxyz a look! Lot's of bounty opportunities to do - for fun, for social, for legitimate work. The system was smooth, secure and safe. I'd give it a recommend!
