Thanks everyone! I’m honored to have been named a finalist for School Librarian of the Year, and I’m ELATED that @Boss_Librarian was chosen as the winner! She’s a tremendous advocate for libraries and a perfect spokesperson for our profession!

Should I be proud that BOTH of Georgia’s gubernatorial candidates made the list?
What the hell is this?!?!
Over the past 3 months, my family has faced the crushing reality that even in 2022, some teachers and administrators have NO IDEA how to educate kids with emotional/behavioral disorders, and cannot even see them as disabilities.

If Twitter ever gets *really* gross we should have like a place IRL that we get together. Somewhere free to hang out, somewhere quietish, but vibrant too. Maybe there could be activities and stuff to learn and do together. Maybe some books. Someone should look into this

IPhone upgrade program; I always wait a few days before wiping my old phone and sending it back, but turn it off so my alerts aren’t going off on two phones. This time, my old phone has TURNED ITSELF BACK ON. TWICE. 🧟‍♂️ Unsettling on multiple levels. 🧟‍♂️

Never forget that anti-teacher attacks aren’t about protecting kids, they’re about discrediting public education to serve as a basis to privatize it.

Two questions for the school librarians who cap the number of students who can visit during lunch or other times: 1) What’s your reason for doing so? (What are you trying to prevent?) and 2) How do you ensure that access is equitable (since first-come, first serve isn’t)?

Today I gave an interview for a segment our school news crew is doing on book banning, forced an installer to re-mount a TV they put in the wrong place, met with a magnet student to go over some peer-reviewed articles I got for her from a professor friend,

And if you are not HoH, advocate for folks who are. If you are in the audience when a speaker asks this, yell back to them “ALWAYS USE THE MIC!” Do this every time until all speakers stop asking and just start using the mic automatically.

And while we’re at it: Common Sense Media should NOT be used as a selection tool for library books. It has its uses for parental guidance, but it can only lead to self-censorship for libraries.

Educators (and parents too) need to read every word of this.
The use of fear to control children is so ubiquitous that most adults don’t even realise they are doing it. They’d never describe what they are doing that way. But in so many different ways, the children feel it. Here’s what it looks like. 1/

We are actively working to have Moms for Liberty declared a hate group and are starting a database to house the many documented instances where they prove themselves to be such. Please send videos, articles and screenshots to [email protected] for our collection.

I’m helping a student search for sources for a BIG research project he’s doing on @boburnham. Anyone have a way to contact his publicist, manager, or anyone else that could help us get in-depth analysis of “What,” “Make Happy,” and “Inside”?

We hear it from students all the time: “.com websites are bad. .edu and .org websites are good, unless it’s Wikipedia.” These misconceptions can lead students dangerously astray. A thread on the problem and lesson ideas to use with your students. 🧵
