Niemand wird später einmal sagen: „Wie gut und klug, dass wir abwartend zugesehen haben, wie Putin in Kyjiw Zivilisten, Brücken, Heizungen und Wasserleitungen bombardiert hat.“

the european mind cannot comprehend
Me and @mttgrmm resolved our company strategy disagreements in three-minute rounds this morning.
@PalmerLuckey and @SchimpfBrian were too weak and pathetic to join. Sad.

More than €1.1bn is currently being invested into a small town in Austria.
@anna_strumpel and myself got a close look at how modern chip design at @Infineon works; where this technology is world leading and where innovation needs to happen.
> what does sovereignty mean in a super global supply and demand situation is a very delicate question.
> Myself mostly talking about software moats, I saw first hand what actual hardware moats are. - this being said it it insanely hard to keep up with this highly price pressured global competition.
> agentic chip design and workflows based on physical constraints seem to be the future… 👀
> compared to metal manufacturing (even though they also use metals here :) ) it is insane to see how agile a production line can produce multiple products at the same time and not just one after another.
if a founder adds a pic of themselves in a pumpkin costume into their company blueprint drop everything and invest immediately
love this podcast with @ragnars
he talks about darkstar, one of the top pre-seed/seed funds for defence in europe and how they chose companies for their boot camp - ‘only those that are 3-6 months out from testing in ukraine; not those that have a plan to go there in years’

investors always ask defence tech startups that have a lot of revenue from ukraine, what they will do when the war ends
how about asking the neo-primes that have no products in ukraine what they will do when the war in their countries begins instead

Pentagon innovation initiatives keep coming, but production contracts haven’t followed. Defense startups without one should consider talking to primes and private equity firms before the money runs out. warontherocks.com/a-tale-of-…

If you care about philosophy, AI, and free society, then there genuinely is not a better or more high-impact role on the planet right now.
Feel free to reach out with any Qs!
I’m hiring a Chief of Staff to be my right hand across everything I do at Cosmos.
That starts with Cosmos Institute (@cosmos_inst), the nonprofit I founded after selling two AI companies, having two kids, and thinking hard about the good life and the good society. Through the Institute, we do research internally and with fellows from @GoogleDeepMind, @AnthropicAI, @OpenAI, @Microsoft, and academia, have given out 200+ grants to build fast prototypes, and we’re launching a big new in-person bet for higher education in 2027. This side of my work also includes @UniofOxford, where I co-teach a graduate seminar on philosophy and AI and support the Human-Centered AI Lab (HAI Lab), as well as a book I’m writing on human autonomy in the age of AI.
On the venture side, you’ll work with me across Cosmos Ventures (@cosmos_vc), our new $77.6M fund backing founders building new institutions for the AI age. Our early portfolio includes companies like AIUC (@aiunderwriting), @PrimeIntellect, and Workshop Labs (acq. by @thinkymachines), with several more to be announced soon. We’re also going to be incubating new companies in 2027.
You’ll come in, do this well for two years, and if you want to build a thesis-aligned company or a nonprofit next, we will back you, or place you at a top company in our community. The role is based in Austin, with relocation provided.
To apply, read our essays and tell us where we’re wrong: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

I would add that being a good person does not always correlate to being the most popular, which people regularly confuse.
especially in this time in history/in this city.
life & careers are long, and whatever game they’re trying to get you to play now, won’t matter in 5/10 years. and it especially won’t matter in death.
Another takeaway after three years of building a company is that the returns to just "being a good person", and not acting transactionally, are higher than I expected.
There are so many transactional, boring, and at times immoral people in the tech industry that if you act with sustained warmth, authenticity, humor, and integrity, great gifts will be laid before you. White pill.

Hot take: some hard tech startups are becoming the incumbents they claim to hate.
following the defence Innovation theatre stage in europe, i worry the sovereign european defence theatre will be unmasked
raising large rounds from us vcs and then selling to us neo-primes, all while putting up ukrainian flags and larping about the need for sovereign capabilities is a joke
makes more sense to just buy superior american products from the outset if that’s what’s happening
