U.S. memo proposes American security operatives accompany anti-cartel operations inside Mexico. Trump officials are pushing for a big security win in Mexico ahead of November's elections. Last year, the Trump admin gave Mexico a list of security targets. Mexican forces have captured or killed most of them. At the height of "Plan Colombia" in the 2000s, there were never more than 563 US troops in Colombia. Congress mandated a cap of 600 (which may have been exceeded off-the-books for search-and-rescue missions). So 600 troops is a *lot*.

Has this happened to anyone else? After being pushed to subscribe to @NewYorker @CondeNast, I missed 3 months of print delivery to a U.S. address, couldn’t get answers, was finally told no back issues, no money back. Kind of wild @TNYsupport

Abro hilo 🧵
