The market got oversaturated with VRBO/AirBnBs. My parents live in a smaller city with a college nearby (Liberty U.). Three houses on their street were converted to short-term rentals for Liberty visitors upon the deaths of the elderly owners. Those are homes that young families would love to have.
Airbnb hosts are melting down over a new policy banning them from making guests complete tasks that “would typically be performed by a cleaner,” like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.”

We've had some very disappointing experiences with short-term vacation rentals, so we've mostly gone back to hotels. They will clean your room and even feed you breakfast. I can better trust the cleanliness ratings on hotel sites. They actually have staff if you run into a problem. No waiting for an owner to respond to your texts and calls.
The radioactive, altered-DNA theory in Crystal Lake actually made a lot of sense to me, having previously seen Jason's immortality. We've seen Jason take shotgun blasts to the chest. His disembodied beating heart has crawled across floors.
