So popular all of a sudden, but I’ve been following the NDS for years. 👀 Netherland Design System (NDS): nldesignsystem.nl (Yes, I know they use the acronym NLDS. That’s the joke, as they say.)

the 1980s designs i’m looking for vs what google seems to think 1980s designs were
idk what this phenomenon is called but i find it really annoying when i’m trying to look up 1980s graphic design and all the search results are like a contemporary vaporwave parody of the 80s instead of actual stuff from the era

in Today I Learned: "nationist" is actually a word, meaning "A language used for the day-to-day functioning of government – official forms, intra-government communication." en.wiktionary.org/wiki/natio…

"Project a Black Planet: The Art and Culture of Panafrica" is a groundbreaking exhibition, uniting 350+ works from artists across continents. It explores Pan-Africanism’s impact on freedom and solidarity. Don't miss it, see it at the Art Institute of Chicago through March 30! 🖼️

Wine bottles are 750cc only because that was the average lung capacity of French glass blowers in antiquity. I think about this a lot. And then think about how many other things are the way they are for no other reason than legacy process.

Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune published a column by Paul Vallas that is riddled with misinformation, contradictions, and includes several harmful inaccuracies. Since they didn't fact-check the author's argument, we will. 🧵👉

"We need designs for this feature" is understood as a business need, but why is "ok so we'll need to interview 15 users" framed as a design need? I'm not asking for users because I need someone to talk to! Research is a business need. I need it to design *the features you want.*

everyone talks about the Chicago Bean but for some reason nobody talks about the truly unfathomably bizarre thing right next to it. may i present to you all: the fountain with a face that spits on you and then smiles and vanishes into the ether – at Chicago, IL

The trans community is tiny, and we rely on allies sooo much. We are currently fighting just to exist - which is crazy. If you can help us, or even voice your support in the smallest way, I promise you it makes a MASSIVE difference. Particularly to those of us who are young ❤️🏳️‍⚧️

Can't believe managers are still doing "come to me with solutions, not problems" in the year of our lord 2023 If I had a solution then it wouldn't be a problem! You would just tell me "ok go solve it" and pretend like that's a job well done!

Designers are often viewed as "difficult people" in their organisation, constantly asking challenging questions, ignoring the status quo, and pushing for better outcomes. By contrast the "team players" get on and do what they're told. Often out of a desire for an easy life.
