We at The Reporters Collective @reporters_co, a tiny non-profit newsroom, stood up to defend journalism against govt attempt to paralyse the profession through a Trojan horse in the Privacy law. We filed a case before the Supreme Court in February 2026 and launchedwww.rti404.com, a watchdog project to protect RTI and journalism, both.
Months later the for- profit big media businesses have realised, not just journalism but revenue of their media business would be hurt too by what the govt is doing.
Personally, I am glad they have eventually seen value in joining us.

EXCLUSIVE: India’s biggest news publishers including Ambani's Network18, Adani's NDTV, Indian Express, Times Internet & others mount the most high-profile challenge yet to Modi’s privacy law, warning it would “render investigative journalism a benign and neutered recorder of events.”
DNPA (@publishers_news) has taken the law to the Supreme Court. They argue it would trample investigative work and let New Delhi identify journalists’ sources.
The provisions “constitute pre-censorship which is anathema to any democracy worth its name,” the group’s 698-page filing says.
The key concerns:
🔹 Consent: requiring a journalist to notify the subject of an investigation and seek consent “would allow that subject to destroy evidence, intimidate witnesses”
🔹 Erasure: people can withdraw consent and demand their data be erased, which the group says could force publishers to unpublish or heavily redact news reports
🔹 Sources: a “nakedly unguided” power to demand information that “can extend to privileged communications in possession of a reporter or the informant”
In a letter to the government, the group said India “has chosen to grant broad exemptions to the state, while failing to extend any corresponding protection to the press.”

For the love of humanity, can someone just demolish that one lane bridge and rebuild them already.
Old Marthanda Varma Bridge is not some precious relic that needs to be preserved for historic reasons.
Nobody in their right mind cares about its history. Its a chokehold on Kerala
Commuters in Kochi Take Note⚠️
Two parallel bridges in Aluva to be closed from today for repair works. Those travelling towards @KochiAirport ,other parts of Northern Kochi & towards Thrissur/Palakkad, PLAN ACCORDINGLY‼️

One of the things that China, South Korea, Japan and all others who consistently grew their GDPs to become developed countries or at least near developed countries was invest in education and healthcare -- which our governments have failed consistently in doing

If you teach the man to fish, he might become independent. But if you give him a minimum amount of fish per k nth while ensuring he doesn't find a job or catch his own fish, he will be your voter forever 🤷
A gentleman on X asked why I was upset that the Indian government provides subsidies to 800 million people.
He completely missed my point.
My objection isn’t to subsidies. It’s to an economy in which 800 million people need government assistance to survive.
Why haven’t we created enough opportunities for them to become economically self-reliant?
That’s the question we should be asking.

Replying to @Airtel_Presence
@Airtel_Presence I have blocked all the calls in DND and I am still getting calls from @PaisaBazaar_in and @policybazaar . How do I stop them ?
Promotion of sports or business is a very tough task in Keralam. Ask Kerala Blasters about it. Imagine running a football club which is uncertain about playing in a stadium, and it happens every season. Depending on the Govt for support is a hopeless ideological romanticism.
That stadium hardly hosts any matches, the GCDA makes only - which is also in arrears - from the shops using the premises. Forca Kochi & Kerala Blasters should come together & build a stadium of their own & let the GCDA sit on their prized possession. @shaji_km, pl do needful.
The Mundamveli LIFE Flat fiasco will require a detailed enquiry and convictions, but I'm sure nobody will be punished in any which way.
Also time to disband that useless entitiy called GCDA - @shaji_km. Please shut it down and do not recruit any തോറ്റ UDF MLA to lead it.
Palarivattom Flyover (UDF) 1 - 1 Mundamveli LIFE Flat (LDF). I rate the LDF corruption more inhuman because of thekr claims before coming to power in 2016 and their PR after that. P&T colony residents were promised a dream, they continued their nightmare.

I told you. It was a simply posturing to create a headline. Nothing was found then by the then LDF Govt, nothing has been found now by the UDF Govt.
In India, every govt institution works in such a way that their employees get no "audit objection" and not inconvenienced. It always the end user who has to bear the pain and frustration. So much for digital India, no change from send online copy and submit hardcopy in duplicate.
The EDF (Export Declaration Form) rules are now in effect, and it seems like RBI and banks have conspired to create a new hell. Or actually 5 hells.
I consult for an American company. Raised October invoice. Received the Inward remittance. And bang! Mail from @HDFC_Bank detailing everything needed before the payment can be processed.
Let me tell you what the 5 hells are:
1. The hell of confusion – RBI clarified last month that the EDF rules do not apply to individuals. But looks like they haven’t told the banks. And CAs also don’t seem to know. There’s no official communication on who is exempt. Last I checked, I was an individual. No company, no LLP. But HDFC still wants me to file the EDF to credit my payment.
2. The hell of complexity – See the attached pic of the form the bank has sent in excel. It has 5 sheets. To be filled and submitted. Some abstruse acronyms like “AD” - no clue what it means. Some fields are mandatory. Some fields are to be filled by the bank. No idea which is what. And it needs a physical signature. Which leads to...
3. The hell of paperwork - They also sent a pdf with a bunch of request letters. I’m supposed to choose the right letter, print, sign, scan and submit. Creating more paper today is incredibly silly. And, I suppose, someone in the bank will have to upload all this somewhere. Reminds me of those hand-filled immigration forms. Pointless.
4. The hell of repetition – At least for me, most of the details are constant. One client, one payment. If it’s a one-time exercise, fine. I’ll grit my teeth and get it done. But no. These details have to be given month after month. Else… no payment will be credited.
5. The hell of unpreparedness – It would have been simple enough for RBI or HDFC to create an online portal for this. With dropdowns, saved formats, contextual help, etc. to at least make this easy. But that would be too convenient, no? So, they’ve chosen to dump the entire burden on the taxpayer.
I have no opinion or understanding of why this is needed. Maybe it is critical information. Okay! But why make the process so confusing and painful?
And poor communication has meant that the banks have just passed on the pain to the exporter, and even CAs can’t help.
Basically RBI & HDFC feel I should consult less, and comply more. Maybe my client will also agree :)

Guess these days there is a particular brand of tourists from up North who travel to Kerala only with the intention of finding some random reason to attack the State and drive hate propaganda by the IT cell.

If Amazon Prime Video changes a feature for millions of paying customers, why should the remedy go only to the one customer who takes it to court? Shouldn't the court order compensation to ALL customers who were in the Rs.1499 "ad-free" plan? A consumer protection system should not make individual litigation the price of obtaining redress for a potentially widespread unfair practice.
