Come on Prime Minister, please meet the families and let’s right this wrong
🚨THE SHAMEFUL TREATMENT OF THE CHINOOK DISASTER FAMILIES RAISES SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT FAIRNESS, ACCOUNTABILITY AND THE DUTY OWED TO THOSE WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES IN SERVICE TO THIS COUNTRY
Those that died in the disaster served their country. They and their families deserve honesty, transparency and justice - it’s the very least we owe them.
PLEASE WATCH THIS SHOCKING FILM and show the @ChinookJustice families they are not alone by backing their call to @andyburnham for an independent judge led review into the circumstances surrounding the disaster.

While we realise the PM and Chancellor have other things on their minds this week, tomorrow is @andyburnham's 100th day in office.
Widows, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters of the 1994 crash - all appealing to him.
Still no meeting in our diary. #chinookjustice

"The British public are the bosses," says Burnham on GMB.
If so why are the bosses locked out of our fathers' blood and biometric records? And why hide the 7-page report of recommendations behind ministerial evasions in Hansard @10DowningStreet ?
Time for candour. #NuclearTruth

Ste - what @CalvinBailey put in Hansard on 15 Oct is the MoD's only legal position: "no recommendations".
If Whitehall is telling you it was just "semantics", then Bailey misled Parliament.
We must demand a formal Written Correction. Private chats don't bind Whitehall.

On October 16, 1964, China conducted its first nuclear test. A uranium-235 fission implosion device, with a yield of 22 kilotons was detonated on a 102-m tower at the Lop Nur test site.

Incredible footage from May 1962: USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608) executing the Operation Dominic Frigate Bird test. History's only submerged SLBM launch to end in a live nuclear detonation, firing a Polaris missile armed with a W47-Y1 600-kiloton warhead. With views from Balao-class submarine USS Carbonero (SS-337).
A lot of hard work this week, great progress is being made on all four of our asks:
Memorialisation, Education, Descendant Research and an Independent Inquiry.
More work to do next week, with further meetings and hopefully more progress.
Thank you everyone for your support and patience.

@JasonFarrellSky Primodos proved how the state waits out victims. Nuclear veterans face the exact same playbook - 50,000 files hidden at RESTORE, and National Archives files locked to 2097 under decisions signed off in 2026.

Exactly, Lord Alton. Just recently Veterans Minister @CalvinBailey told the Commons the nuclear review “did not make recommendations”. When ministers are still fed scripts to mislead the House in 2026, the Duty of Candour is urgent.

During Committee Stage consideration of the Hillsborough (Public Accountability) Bill in @HouseofLords I raised the examples of how Hillsborough victims and Atomic Test Victims have seen evidence concealed and lies told. I gave the example of Tobias Elwood’s admission to BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire that as Veterans’ Minister he had misled @UKParliament because officials had misled him. Minister Lemos has promised to write to me, setting out what is being done to investigate the treatment of our servicemen who were deliberately exposed to radiation to see its effects.

Project Salmon was a nuclear test detection research experiment (Vela Uniform). The 5.3 kt device tamped in place at the bottom of a 822-meter (2,700 feet) hole in the Tatum Salt Dome near Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was detonated on October 22, 1964.
