Good use of AI
1/ What is the maximum number of legal moves in a chess position where every one of them gives check? The record on that question had stood since 1968. Double Agent, our AI research system, just broke it. How many checks can you count here?

Hopefully this election will move beyond personal accusations and toward meaningful discussions about the future of FIDE and world chess.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE PRESS OFFICE OF WADIM ROSENSTEIN, CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL CHESS FEDERATION (FIDE) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: 30 July 2026 SUBJECT: Correction of Factual Inaccuracies and Ethical Conduct in FIDE Elections TO: Timur Turlov (Candidate for FIDE President) and Arkady Dvorkovich (Outgoing/Withdrawn FIDE President) The Press Office of Wadim Rosenstein issues this formal statement to clarify the record and demand an end to the dissemination of false information and defamatory claims during the current FIDE election cycle. Since March of this year, Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich has repeatedly circulated unsubstantiated claims regarding Mr. Rosenstein’s professional background. Now, Mr. Turlov, together and in collaboration with Mr. Dvorkovich are intensifying the spread such defamatory information. Specifically, these claims allege that Mr. Rosenstein was introduced to Leonid Mikhelson and Gennady Timchenko for business purposes via a relative described as an "oligarch." The Press Office hereby clarifies the following facts: * Absence of Association: Wadim Rosenstein has never met, nor had any business dealings with, Leonid Mikhelson or Gennady Timchenko. * Family Integrity: The relative in question was an employed engineer who passed away in 2017. He was never involved in the business dealings mentioned, nor was he an "oligarch." * Project Origins: The Novatek project frequently cited was awarded to Mr. Rosenstein’s company in 2018 by French and German partner firms - not by Novatek directly. This work is fully documented by recommendation letters from European clients. * Business Profile: Mr. Rosenstein’s company is a European-focused entity, serving primarily German and wider European clients. Despite numerous private requests to cease these personal attacks, the misinformation has now been made public. Furthermore, we find it deeply concerning that Mr. Rosenstein was previously informed these "attacks would stop" contingent upon him joining a specific political team related to outgoing and withdrawn FIDE President, Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich. Such tactics have no place in the governance of the international chess community. A Call for Leadership and Integrity Leadership is defined by integrity and the fulfillment of one’s word. We remind Mr. Dvorkovich of his public commitment to resign should he face sanctions. For the health of FIDE and the global chess community, now that you are already sanctioned by the European Union. it is imperative that leaders remain accountable to their promises and maintain a standard of discourse that respects both the living and the deceased. We ask that the focus of this campaign return to the future of chess, and that the late family members of candidates be left out of political rhetoric. This is unethical and inhuman. This is crazy. I hope @FIDE_chess respond to this
FIDE should stop deleting the profiles of players who have passed away. I noticed a player had disappeared from the ChessEver database and went looking to find out why. It turns out FIDE removes deceased players' profiles. I checked several others, and their FIDE pages are gone too. That creates real problems, because the whole ecosystem relies on FIDE IDs to identify players. Also, a FIDE ID is a permanent part of chess history, used in tournament records, databases, articles, and research. Deleting the profile breaks those references. Keep them in a separate Historical Players section instead. Preserve the profiles I emailed @FIDE_chess about this too.

Black to move in win. Answer in the comment section

The key idea is 1...Nxg3!!. If White responds naturally with 2. hxg3, then Black has the brilliant continuation: 2...Qxh4+!! (queen sacrifice) 3. Rxh4 (or any capture of the queen) 3...g3#

I recently posted that FIDE is a one-trick pony. They only know how to operate by handing out titles, chairmanships, and positions as rewards for loyal supporters. Now they must be really worried, because they have added a second trick to their repertoire: retaliation. After calling an urgent meeting last week, FIDE withdrew the hosting rights for the World Junior Championships from Peru and awarded them to Venezuela, only three months before the event was due to begin. The decision was made on the same day @WadimRosenstein was holding an event in Lima. The intention is clear. They are losing support, and they want to punish those who are deserting them. This is really low, and will probably backfire.
Today I woke up and learned about yet another injustice. Of course, many see the decision to move the World Junior Championship to Venezuela as a political move. Dear Peruvians, Last week I came to your country to help grow chess, and I will not allow anybody to use our success to create fear or division. Our event set a World Record and brought in more funding than the combined FIDE budget for the Americas for several years. If anybody believes that federations can be pressured in this way, then here is my answer: Do not worry! I know many juniors were looking forward to this event and have been preparing for it for months. They should not be the victim of politics and constant administrative failures. If this tournament doesn’t take place in Peru as promised, I am sure that another one will be organised - and another world record will be broken! Federations should never feel threatened because they support change. They should feel empowered, respected, heard, and supported. In just 86 days, these tactics will finally go - they do not belong in our sport, and they do not belong in the 21st century. We cannot continue to rely on governance that creates uncertainty, instead of opportunity. We will build bigger things. In Peru and everywhere around the world. The future of chess belongs to the players, the children, and the federations. And I will not allow anything else♟️❤️🇵🇪

♟ Eight years ago, I committed to building a stronger, fairer, global FIDE. Serving as the president of FIDE for the past eight years has been an exceptional honour. Together, we have strengthened FIDE, significantly expanded and improved global events and invested more in children’s chess, women’s competitions, senior chess, education and social programmes. But this is not the endpoint. It is the foundation. That is why today I am announcing that I will seek another term as President of the International Chess Federation. Every federation deserves opportunities to grow, with support tailored to its needs and circumstances. Every player and chess enthusiast deserves a place in our global chess family. Every move counts. Everyone matters. #Dvorkovich2026 #DvorkovichTeam

I don't think there are many players who are older than Carlsen to have more than one classical victory against him.
Wesley: "It's not a masterpiece, but I'm very pleased to beat Magnus, who's the best player in the world by far and probably goes down as the best chess player who ever lived... I think it's only my second classical victory against him." #NorwayChess

Vietnam top female chess player, IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen criticized the Olympiad selection as rushed and inconsistent. Players were informed via chat groups, given less than 33 hours over a weekend to decide, and had to arrange their own funding. And the federation’s response didn’t really help. Alireza Firouzja is out of the French team. Not because of skill. Because of silence. After 5 years of skipping team events and not replying to call-ups, France finally moved on. More reasons here: attackingchess.com/why-alire…

“How does he keep doing it!?” “You can’t stop this man.” “The GOAT ain’t washed.” Magnus Carlsen looked finished after four rounds at TePe Sigeman 2026. Then he won 3 straight classical games, survived the chaos of the final round, and beat Arjun Erigaisi in sudden death to take the title. attackingchess.com/carlsen-b…
