I recently posted that FIDE is a one-trick pony. They only know how to operate by handing out titles, chairmanships, and positions as rewards for loyal supporters. Now they must be really worried, because they have added a second trick to their repertoire: retaliation. After calling an urgent meeting last week, FIDE withdrew the hosting rights for the World Junior Championships from Peru and awarded them to Venezuela, only three months before the event was due to begin. The decision was made on the same day @WadimRosenstein was holding an event in Lima. The intention is clear. They are losing support, and they want to punish those who are deserting them. This is really low, and will probably backfire.
Today I woke up and learned about yet another injustice. Of course, many see the decision to move the World Junior Championship to Venezuela as a political move. Dear Peruvians, Last week I came to your country to help grow chess, and I will not allow anybody to use our success to create fear or division. Our event set a World Record and brought in more funding than the combined FIDE budget for the Americas for several years. If anybody believes that federations can be pressured in this way, then here is my answer: Do not worry! I know many juniors were looking forward to this event and have been preparing for it for months. They should not be the victim of politics and constant administrative failures. If this tournament doesn’t take place in Peru as promised, I am sure that another one will be organised - and another world record will be broken! Federations should never feel threatened because they support change. They should feel empowered, respected, heard, and supported. In just 86 days, these tactics will finally go - they do not belong in our sport, and they do not belong in the 21st century. We cannot continue to rely on governance that creates uncertainty, instead of opportunity. We will build bigger things. In Peru and everywhere around the world. The future of chess belongs to the players, the children, and the federations. And I will not allow anything else♟️❤️🇵🇪

♟ Eight years ago, I committed to building a stronger, fairer, global FIDE. Serving as the president of FIDE for the past eight years has been an exceptional honour. Together, we have strengthened FIDE, significantly expanded and improved global events and invested more in children’s chess, women’s competitions, senior chess, education and social programmes. But this is not the endpoint. It is the foundation. That is why today I am announcing that I will seek another term as President of the International Chess Federation. Every federation deserves opportunities to grow, with support tailored to its needs and circumstances. Every player and chess enthusiast deserves a place in our global chess family. Every move counts. Everyone matters. #Dvorkovich2026 #DvorkovichTeam

We invited Jose to be part of our team at the World Rapid and blitz team this year. This guy is a total nutcase. I met him at the train station and he looked like he hasn’t slept for a week. We took the train to our air b&b, and before I could say anything, Jose went straight for the modem, wrote down the wifi password and told me with a straight face “Ok now I will play titled Tuesday, maybe I will not go for dinner.” Flabbergasted, I went to his room and there he was, lying on his bed, laptop propped on his knees, playing despite being completely exhausted. I have no words for his love and passion for chess and delighted that he is having a deep run at this years World Cup.
Jospem (Jose Martinez Alcantara) is through to Round 5 of the World Cup with a close to 2800 performance and close to flawless play. I wonder what his accusers are thinking now — any remorse?

The President of @USchess himself, Kevin Pryor, is participating in the US Open. A retired corporate leader, he first served as the President of the Florida Chess Association. He is so passionate about the game that he still teaches chess once per week, he told me.
