[Spoilers Down Below] Spoiler thoughts After sleeping on it and giving it time to process. I still feel the same I do about Crystal Lake. It's a beautiful show with some really well written stuff. Linda is a fantastic Pamela Voorhees and totally steals the show. She portrays the perfect amount of protective mother and psycho killer. The show in my opinion is about 70% flawless, but where it really falls apart for me is when they take the focus off Pamela being the villain and spend too much time trying to put everything on Elias as a way to rationalize her choices as a killer. Friday The 13th was always a story centered around tragedy, a woman losing her son and going mad because of grief is tragic. But that's not why she went crazy in this story. It's because of her medication that her husband put her on. So it isn't her just genuinely being crazy its now because of something her husband did. Which in my opinion dilutes her character. This same level of victimization is also carried over to Jason which is another problem with the show in my opinion is we spend way too much time with Jason as a normal kid just with a big head. He's well educated, he speaks well and has friends. This was a huge mistake in my opinion as it takes away from the grief strickenness of the character that is their since part 2. They tried to make both Pamela and Jason characters you're supposed to feel sympathetic for and paint them as the victim. Even to the point they had the sherif in town talking about those killings she did wasn't her fault and Elias is the real monster leading to a cringe stand off where the sheriff is trying to protect the serial killer. Then it gets to what in my opinion is the worst misunderstanding of the characters. Pamela and Jason see each other. Why? What since would that make in any world to do that. Jason's whole thing is he started killing people because he saw his mom get beheaded and got revenge by killing the woman who did that and then didn't kill again until they started training at the Packanack lodge. Here they completely ruin the motivation of both Pamela and Jason, why would Pamela be slicing and dicing at Crystal Lake if her son is still alive and she knows it? Why would Jason be killing people and not just go home. It wasn't even like he was extensively bullied in the show and he seemed like a sweet kid. So why would he not just go home with his mom the person who made him feel the safest? Then on top of that they have Jason Voorhees, the character who's mother is the only person who could calm him down start to strangle said mother. Like what?? I think Crystal Lake is a beautiful show with some really fantastic shots, kills and characters but I think it drops the ball at the end. Is it worth checking out? Yes. Does the ending ruing the whole experience? Well that depends how you look at the characters. Personally I'll give the show as whole a 7/10 and would suggest checking it especially for those first 5 and a half episodes.
