How many doctors have had study leave requests rejected in Yorkshire and Humber?
Yorkshire and Humber deanery have underspent on study leave over the last 4 years by ~ £1.67million. There is no messaging from the deanery to facilitate the use of these funds, which can only be used by doctors in training for study leave.

So…basically anyone - whatever their base profession- can do anything related to “general medicine” now in the NHS Whether that be a GP, Acute Medicine or Medical Registrar In short? Having failed to convince more doctors to do GIM or its ilk? The system has decided ‘anyone’ can do it. What is that campaign ran by the @RCPhysicians once upon a time.. Ah yes #MedicineIsBrilliant 😎

Seriously? The NHS's ability to tackle waiting lists and treat patients is being severely constrained by shortages of key doctor groups. The Prime Minister’s threat to take away 1,000 extra training places if strikes are not called off will surely worsen an already dire situation? I get there are arguments on both sides but using workforce planning (which directly impacts patient care) to threaten a union over strikes is just plain wrong
The BMA seems surprised that if they reject the deal on offer and go on strike their members don’t get what the Government is offering. We have time before Easter weekend to resolve this dispute. A deal on jobs and pay is on the table. @Keir_Starmer 👇🏻 thetimes.com/article/18f9fd9…

This whole dispute is now getting in very odd territory. The NATION either NEEDS those posts or it doesnt. Surely workforce planning is about meeting current, and crucially, future demand. Does government want an NHS in the future? Genuinely dont understand the thinking here???
“Making threats about withholding jobs from doctors… I don’t think is a realistic way or a credible way of ending this dispute.” Resident doctors are set to strike next week in England, after the Government shifted the goal posts during negotiations. @fletchjack speaks to the Today programme

I have some news; I am running for the British Medical Association Council. If you are a BMA member please vote for me; "I am standing for BMA Council because doctors need representatives who understand how power operates in the NHS - and how decisions made at the top land in reality. I work in A&E, where political and workforce failures translate directly into risk and harm for patients and staff. I do not just understand doctors’ anger about pay, morale and conditions, I live it. Alongside my clinical work, I have spent twelve years pursuing a fiercely contested whistleblowing case and supporting doctors in similar situations. I have seen how employers, regulators and lawyers can combine to silence doctors who speak truth to power or scapegoat those who remain silent. Doctors carry responsibility for patients, yet too often lack power and protection. I have worked closely with the BMA on my own case and have seen it increasingly win these fights for others. These successes matter. They protect patients, defend doctors, and change culture."

This is heartbreaking @wesstreeting 👇 - what on earth are @UKFPO playing at ? Please sort this case (and UKFPO) out!
Dr Elaine is the UK’s first deaf/blind doctor. She is under multiple specialists in London. She is on 24 hour LTOT. Her request to be pre-allocated to London was declined and was allocated Dorset. This is a catastrophic failure by the @UKFPO, who simply isn’t hated enough.

In 1970 the Drs pay review body awarded 30% to junior doctors & consultants to counter inflation. The government gave 30% to juniors but 15% to consultants. The whole pay review body resigned in protest. The report acknowledged affordability but placed fairness first. The 30% ended up being paid.

It’s not just Olly saying this, I’ve heard it from multiple Labour MPs. While 29% sounds great over the same period the average worker got about 20% and pay erosion had been nowhere near comparable. The graph shows this nicely. NHS digital and ONS figures.
Labour MP @OliverRyanUK said on Monday that resident doctors got a 29% pay rise “last year”. But the 29% figure for doctors in England actually represents the combined effect of several pay rises over three years, including the current one. fullfact.org/health/resident…

Add it up… You wait 12 hours in A&E to see a doctor You wait six months to see a specialist doctor… You wait a year to get your operation by a doctor Yet, hundreds of British trained, qualified doctors can’t get a job!!!! It doesn’t add up, does it?

Kemi wants to introduce minimum service levels across the NHS, good luck with that one, you’re in for a shock Kemi 👀
Doctors have gone on strike today for the THIRD time since Labour handed out inflation-busting pay rises and told us they were ending the strikes. The Conservatives will ban doctors’ strikes and introduce minimum service levels across the NHS. Only we will stand up for patients.

Fun fact more doctors voted to reject the offer and continue strikes 29,215 than voted for Wes Streeting to be MP in Ilford North 15,647.

Now we know why Rishi Sunak refuses to negotiate with NHS staff. He wants the strikes to go ahead, so he can blame doctors and nurses for his failure. #PMQs

OVER HALF OF FY2 RESIDENT DOCTORS UNEMPLOYED FROM NEXT MONTH. This is an abomination, @wesstreeting. How have we arrived at a situation where newly trained doctors – doctors we’ve invested in – are discarded like this? bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…
