A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg as two men tried to rob him of his jewelry on a Bronx subway station platform on Wednesday.
The victim, whom witnesses said was wearing at least three large chains encrusted with gems, was on the northbound B and D platform at the Tremont Ave. station near Grand Concourse in Morris Heights around 8:09 p.m. when two men approached him and demanded his valuables, police said.
A struggle ensued that ended when one of the crooks drew a firearm and shot the victim in his left leg, according to police.
Medics rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he’s expected to survive.
The thieves fled the station empty-handed. There were no arrests.
A witness:
The victim was sporting a great deal of bling, but “all his jewelry was fake.”
“He had about three or four big chains, with moissanite gems (which are lab-grown) ... Only the BB Simon belt he had on was real. Everything else was fugazi.”
