My core thesis is that overthinking functions just like an addiction, which is better news than it sounds, because people *recover* from addictions.
Learning to have a radically different relationship with the voice in your head is a trainable skill.
My essays on this have now reached hundreds of thousands of people, and the workshops that followed convinced me it was time to build a place where we could keep practicing.
We start September 8. I hope you’ll join us. Link in the next tweet.

Gents: I'm leading a men's retreat June 4-7 with @schlaf @CryptoMindcare. Incredible new venue in the Catskills, NY. The first one we did over MLK weekend went so well that we decided to run it back.
Classic men's work, meditation, embodiment, healthy local food, saunas, hot tubs, and some guaranteed fun.
We have a couple spots left, including a scholarship rate. DM for more details.

A pattern I've noticed: The executives who are hardest to coach aren't the ones with anger problems. They're the ones who are "fine." They've built entire empires on top of emotions they've never let themselves feel. And the empire becomes the defense.

Early on, the CEO is “the best person at the company” at some things. Often sales (passion + knowledge) or product vision.
But by 100 people, if the CEO is “better than everyone” at 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, the CEO has hired poorly, and the company is suffering.
Tough transition.

Most of your problems are not actually problems. They are discomforts.

Discomfort is not the problem—on the contrary, it’s usually the cost of the solution.

I’m excited to announce the launch of my new company Conscious Talent.
The vision is simple. Let’s turn work into a vehicle for consciousness evolution.
Three years before we sold my last company to Salesforce, I had a spiritual awakening that cracked my life open.
For a while, I thought I might need to become a monk and leave business behind.
But I eventually realized something surprising.
Being a startup founder and facing the demands of modern life was actually the most fertile ground for self-awareness and transformation.
My work wasn’t a distraction from my consciousness journey… it was the path.
I wondered why there was such a disconnect between the place we spend the most time and the self awareness journey.
It became obvious to me that life is much more fulfilling when personal and professional growth are integrated.
And I wasn’t alone.
I started sharing my journey and met other leaders on similar paths, and began to notice a pattern.
These leaders weren’t just looking for fat paychecks. They longed for something more…but finding it wasn’t easy.
They wanted teammates who would excel at their jobs AND were equally committed to their own inner development.
They wanted to work at companies that would support the full spectrum of growth.
And they wanted to work with people who could get shit done, from a place of wisdom.
These types of people and opportunities exist, but they're hard to find.
That’s why my wife @ztsekouras and I created Conscious Talent.
Conscious Talent connects high-performing, self-aware leaders with companies who value both professional excellence and personal evolution.
We help leaders find opportunities that align with their values, their gifts, and their growth paths.
We partner with companies to help them find exceptional talent who also embody the emotional intelligence, depth, and self-awareness required to lead in today’s world.
For too long, we've separated personal evolution from our professional lives.
It’s time we collectively learn how to weave our inner and outer worlds together, as we build our careers and companies.
If you’re a leader looking for aligned opportunities, join our talent network. (link in next thread)
If you’re looking to hire conscious talent, reach out. (link in next thread)
And if this vision resonates with you, we’d love your support in getting the word out. Tag someone who should know about us. 🙏
There’s a new way to work that’s emerging and we’re building bridges for those who are ready to walk this path.
Thanks to everyone who has inspired and supported us in bringing this vision to life!

I spent months reporting this feature for @doubleblindmag on ketamine: its rapid rise as a treatment for depression, and how the hype is racing ahead of science, safety, and oversight.
The more I dug in, the harder it was to ignore the echoes of the early opioid crisis

Few would argue we should measure the success of a medical treatment by how much we “like” the treatment
But people make this mistake with therapy
It’s an imperfect analogy, because we’re dealing not with bone and tissue, but subjectivity and mental life. Nevertheless, “liking” treatment is not the same as successful treatment
Something is supposed to change. Something about who we are and how we live our lives is supposed to change
We all know people who talk about how “wonderful” their therapist is while by all appearances, they continue to live their lives in the same painful and self-defeating ways
When did we start conflating “liking” treatment with good treatment? Where did we lose the thread?

Q: “I'm sure your patients are getting better, just not—never—100%, right?”
A: “I don’t know what 100% better means. At some point, as my patients emerge from desperate pain, or self-constructed prisons, or endless looping of the same painfully bad film, there is an inflection

money /ˈmʌni/ n.
1. medium of exchange, store of value
2. created from nothing, shapes everything
3. freedom? addiction? power? identity?
how much of your life is it worth? where did your money beliefs come from?
if these stir something, i'm creating a space to explore.

In just 12 months, Downshift has guided 24 ambitious professionals through transformation.
They've moved countries, grieved losses, found second callings, and navigated life's deepest transitions.
I'm excited to share that applications are now open for our Spring 2025 cohort.
For seven weeks, you'll join fellow ambitious professionals creating space for a new kind of contribution—one that emerges not from pushing harder, but from listening deeper.
Your journey unfolds through:
✅ Four immersive days at Menla Mountain Retreat (March 18-21), just two hours north of NYC
✅ Six weeks of thoughtfully designed virtual workshops and group coaching for integration and growth
✅ Deep connection with a cohort who honors both excellence and inner wisdom
This is for founders, executives, makers, and creators standing at the threshold of something significant. Whether you're winding down a venture, navigating burnout, or curious about what emerges when you allow yourself to slow down.
This isn't about abandoning ambition—it's about allowing it to mature into something more meaningful.

I rarely mention it here explicitly, but I run a somatic therapy and executive coaching practice that's grown beautifully through word of mouth. I work mostly with founders, executives, creatives, and spiritual practitioners, yet take pride in serving all kinds of folks.
As a new dad, I'm feeling inspired to expand this work in 2025. If you're seeking embodied leadership coaching that weaves spirituality with grounded practicality, or want to explore Hakomi somatic psychotherapy, I'd love to meet.
I work with folks globally on Zoom and now in person at my office in the Oakland Hills. Opening some sliding scale slots for the new year, too (these tend to fill fast).

Many of us who complain that we’re way too busy & tired because of all the work we have to do might want to confront the part of ourselves that is uncomfortable with stillness and addicted to work and thus very good at making sure that there’s always a lot that “has” to get done.
