The Department of Livestock Services (DLS), with support from the Gambia Agriculture and Food Security Project (GAFSp), is conducting an intensive poultry management training for 30 poultry farmers, 60% of whom are women, at the Jenoi Farmers Training Center.
The comprehensive curriculum covers the entire poultry life cycle, including housing and biosecurity, nutrition and feeding, health management and disease prevention, breeding and hatchery practices, record-keeping, and market-oriented production techniques.
Participants would be poultry farmer field facilitators, selected graduates from previously supported Poultry Farmer Field Schools, and regional livestock assistants. Upon completion, trainees will serve as peer trainers and extension resource persons within their respective Farmer Field Schools and communities, strengthening local capacity for sustainable poultry production and improved household livelihoods.
This initiative aims to enhance technical knowledge, promote gender-inclusive participation in livestock enterprises, and boost resilience and food security through increased poultry productivity. Participants expressed appreciation to GAFSp for the support and committed to applying best practices to ensure the health and productivity of their flocks.
