When you rethink about today, remember @neha_aisa marched WITH the people, deceived the police that was detaining anyone found BREATHING near Jantar Mantar for over an hour, and almost reached the venue before she was CHOKED while being detained FORCEFULLY. That is how you lead. By example. Not diktats. Not shadow fights. Not statements. Like i always say. WOMEN WILL LEAD THE REVOLUTION.

Today’s advisory for @DelhiPolice: Don’t grope women. Don’t assault women. Don’t hide your name plates. Don’t hide behind your uniform. ACP Vivek Bhagat was caught on camera inappropriately touching a woman journalist. Your uniform won’t erase what you did to women.

#VoteChori

We need to reclaim our #democracy! Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner must go & be held accountable. #SIR must be completely withdrawn & deleted voters restored. In light of the shocking revelations that have come out through an Indian Express investigation yesterday, it has become clear as a day that, since its inception, SIR has been an #arbitrary & unlawful but meticulously planned and administratively executed scheme for mass disenfranchisement of voters. It is also now evident, without doubt, that the entire process has been centrally managed & controlled by the CEC Gyanesh Kumar, bypassing even his own colleagues, the other Election Commissioners. The scale of deletion of voters across the country is unprecedented. And it will not stop at that. Divested of the right to vote and a valid voter card, many other rights of the 'deleted voters' will also become vulnerable - ration, pension, health insurance, housing, education. This cannot go unchallenged and unchecked. Voter Adhikar Manch Delhi is, therefore, unequivocal in its demands: - Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar must either resign or impeachment proceedings initiated against him along with fixing his accountability; - SIR must be completely rolled back, all deleted voters restored - All documents related to SIR, including dissent notes be made public; - The 2023 law through which Govt has got total and complete control on appointment of Election Commissioners be withdrawn. Nothing less will do. Now is the time to raise our voice and reclaim our democracy. Please read the full statement by Voter Adhikar Manch here - drive.google.com/file/d/1kHE… Always remember, when #citizens engage, things #change!

Investigation of the year by @RitikaChopra__. We now know that the disquiet over SIR wasn’t just an Opposition concern. Election Commissioners themselves objected to some of its most alarming decisions, at one point calling it “harassment of young voters” Gyanesh Kumar chose to sideline those objections — one of the reports in the series looks at new addition to Form 6 that required new voters to provide details of whether their parents appeared on electoral rolls from the previous SIR. This single change wreaked havoc on the ground. So many people forced to queue up and produce documents to prove their link to decades-old voter lists. It now turns out there were objections to this requirement from within the EC itself calling it illegal.

Rahul Gandhi did something in Pune yesterday that Indian political speech almost never does. He put a price on being a woman. At Chhatron Ki Goonj, he broke violence into three parts, each with a number attached. Direct violence. Around 4.5 lakh girls killed before birth every year, which tracks UNFPA's State of World Population 2020 estimate of roughly 4,60,000 girls missing at birth annually between 2013 and 2017. Eighty per cent harassed at some point, on a bus, in a classroom, on a street. ActionAid's 2016 YouGov survey of Indian cities found 79 per cent. Twenty-nine per cent facing physical violence since the age of 15, and 6 in 100 reporting sexual violence in their lifetime, both from NFHS-5, 2019-21. Opportunity violence. Half of all women giving up education or leaving a job in the name of safety. Financial violence. ₹17,500 a year, extra, simply to travel safely. That last figure is not rhetoric. It comes from Girija Borker's work at the World Bank (Policy Research Working Paper 9731, July 2021), which mapped every travel route to every college at Delhi University against crowdsourced safety data. Women were willing to pay ₹17,500 more per year for a route one standard deviation safer. Men, ₹9,950. Women also chose colleges in the bottom half of the quality distribution over ones in the top quintile to avoid an unsafe commute, and accepted forty extra minutes of travel a day to do it. This is what a safety tax looks like when someone bothers to measure it. Paid in fees, in commuting hours, in degrees not taken. It compounds over a working life into lower earnings and the female labour force participation rate we keep writing papers about. The line he opened with is the one that stays. *Kuch ho gaya toh.* Four words, said by parents who love their daughters, that have shrunk more women's lives in this country than any statute on the books. Control arrives dressed as care, which is exactly why it is so hard to refuse. He paired it with the Time Use Survey finding: girls aged 15 to 29 do five and a half hours of housework a day. Boys in the same house do thirty minutes. Suchitra Pagi, an economics student from Vasai, spoke about being harassed at thirteen walking home from school. Maitri, a psychology student, said safety is what keeps rural girls out of college. They said it into a microphone, in a full hall. The number he did not linger on is the one that should worry us most. Ninety-nine per cent of sexual violence goes unreported. Every figure above is therefore a floor, and every policy built on NCRB data is being built on what women were willing to say out loud to a stranger with a clipboard.

Fascinating insight by a scientist friend who’s working closely with AI in research and coding. “At this stage, AI can easily ace any PG level exams of most of the disciplines but can’t set a good paper even for a UG exam of any subject. It’s great at answering (well-defined) questions but absolutely incapable of making value judgments - say which question will test what conceptual clarity and what question is worth a one mark and which one is worth ten marks etc. It definitely knows what’s a good answer but clueless about what is a good question.”

Over 300,000 people die of drowning each year. In order to protect society, it is now illegal to consume or possess water. Your government is also considering banning solid food, as it presents a needless choking hazard. You are not an adult. You are a baby. Eat the baby food.

Open letter to our Hon’ble CM Sirjee @himantabiswa Sirjee, today as you take oath to the seat of the Chief Minister of our state #Assam I would like to congratulate you on your astounding victory. I would like to introduce myself as that common woman whose name you repeatedly uttered during your election stint - Sujata Gurung Chowdhury.  Without knowing anything about me or my life, my food habits, my culture, my religion, my ideology or perhaps even me as a person you called me a “beef eater” a non sanatani, an anti India communist and the works! All because you had a narrative to build, an election to win and some rhetoric that would get you some slapstick moments of glory. Your only connection with me was my daughter contesting the Assam Assembly elections 2026 as a candidate from the opposition alliance #kunkichowdhury Many asked me to place my clarification on these allegations made by you but I did not at that moment because clarifying before a political hound does not make any sense. Now that you are Chief Minister and as an elected representative of the people you are answerable to me and to the public so this message to you.  Your allegations have been made with malafide intention, it has assassinated my character in public and has been defamatory. Further the photograph that you have publicized of me eating beef is false. This has been clarified by the founder and owner of the museum where this photo was taken at Denver. This matter is of almost no relevance to a Chief Minister and a powerful political leader like you but for me a common man this is life changing, I have not only been defamed in public but the photograph of my minor children being released in public domains have  endangered their lives. I have people asking me not to write on social media, not to take photos of my travels, some even pass snide remarks as to whether what I have served them in my home contains beef or not!  What does these matter to you Sirjee, a common man’s life is forever in danger so be his child’s life too. A common man is forever facing snide remarks so be it. The other allegations of being anti India and a communist, a simple retweeting of an article published in a news portal does not make someone anti India or a terrorist. I have more than 5000 books in my personal library and have read more than half of these, these are books on different cultures, ideologies, personalities of the world with varied opinions and thoughts! Does my reading these books make me an anti India or a terrorist? Well regarding the communist bit as the saying goes, “ if one is not a communist at 25 you do not have a heart and if you are not a capitalist at 35 then you don't have a brain!” And I am 56 now and almost all my writings are of “eons ago,” eons for the uninitiated means “many years ago.” Hon’ble CM Sirjee today as we leave the election fever behind us and now that you have taken up the mantle and responsibility of the state of Assam and its citizens as it's undisputed leader, I would like to tell you as a common citizen of the country and the state that this country of ours is one where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, where every citizen has the right to live, the right to choose their own religion, culture, their food habits, their ideology and that this country is as much ours as it is yours. You may have won the election and the war of the rhetorics but Sirjee do remember that the battle is still on and will go on as long as the common man like me keeps breathing because it is this breath of the public, the common man that drives your pulse and the pulse of our leaders. Jai Hind!  Yours sincerely, Sujata Gurung Chowdhury A Hindu by birth and culture and not by politics. NB: Hon’ble CM Sirjee it may be noted that your defamation suit will be for an amount of Rs. 1.00/- (Rupee one only) alongwith a public apology from you.

As people obsess over the West Bengal election results, something far more dangerous is unfolding in Manipur. Three years later, the #Manipur conflict is no longer just ethnic violence. It has mutated into a complex multi-actor armed conflict involving several insurgent groups, old and new armed organisations and militias, political networks, and countless sophisticated automatic weapons. I have gone through thousands of FIRs out of over 12,000 registered till last year, along with 14 more from just the last two months. Some of the harshest sections in Indian law have been invoked ... including UAPA and the Explosives Act. And yet, not a single case has seen conviction. I repeat: NOT ONE. Even in cases where infants and soldiers were brutally killed using explosives and automatic weapons, the state cannot name the accused. FIR after FIR simply reads: “unknown armed miscreants.” That is how deep the chaos runs in Manipur. Everybody seems to know who is killing whom ... yet nobody can officially prove it. Today, Manipur is arguably the most heavily armed state in India. Members of insurgent groups from Kuki, Meitei and Naga communities have themselves admitted to me that their “boys” are now also operating on a hired basis at times .. often hired by those with political agendas .. targeting civilians and, occasionally, even security personnel, to keep Manipur burning. Sources within networks opposed to Myanmar’s military regime have also confirmed to me, with evidence, that since 2023 large consignments of weapons have been routed into Manipur to different armed groups. Former Union Home Secretary G. K. Pillai tells me: “The government does not want the truth out about who started the Manipur conflict. They created the mess and now have no idea how to solve it.” My report. google.com/amp/s/www.aljazee…

One #KeralaStory from the recent election results that communalists should note: a Muslim majority constituency, Thavanur, elected a Christian, VS Joy; a Hindu majority constituency, Kalamassery, elected a Muslim. VE Abdul Gafoor; and a Christian majority constituency, Kochi, elected a Muslim, Muhammed Shiyas. Despite some influence from the national trends in favour of identity politics, Kerala remains a model of communal harmony, a state where people see human beings first and caste or religion later @incindia @inckerala

Just before I came here, I had a chat with some of the students. Some students from the 7th grade interacted with me, and I asked them who was their best teacher. And a girl mentioned Alice Ma'am. Then I asked them why she is a good teacher. They immediately answered that she listens to them, she teaches them with love and affection, she is kind to them, and she allows them to have fun while studying. Now, if you want to teach somebody or if you want to learn, you need an atmosphere like the one Alice Ma'am has created for the students: one of love, affection and respect and where people can listen to each other and be kind. That's exactly my fight as well. I too want to help develop an India where people are kind to each other, where people listen to each other and respect their traditions, languages and religions. : LoP Shri @RahulGandhi 📍 Tamil Nadu
