@JamesClear your "the person who has the most fun wins" point reminded me of a great Paul McCartney quote I came across recently (jillianhess.substack.com/p/t…), about The Beatles' wild productivity:

> People often say, ‘Oh, you work so hard,’ and I say, ‘We don’t work; we play.’ I try to keep that in the front of my brain when things are getting tiresome. ‘Jesus, we’ve worked too hard. No, we’ve played too hard.’

A really nice write-up from the GOV.UK Pay team about how they performance-tested their new webhooks mechanism gds.blog.gov.uk/2023/07/11/p…

New favourite hobby: getting Chat GPT to rewrite long, confusing letters and make them shorter, more contextual and action-oriented, so that I have more confidence that I've understood them properly.

As a... – website visitor I want to... – visit the FAQ page so that... – I can read answers to a bunch of stupid questions that nobody has ever asked, littered with SEO keywords, that Barry from the marketing department insists is helping drive organic traffic

I've put together my first YouTube video, covering all the ControlNet models with examples of their outputs. All those models can be hard to get your head around. Hoping this will be useful for folks just starting. youtube.com/watch?v=GVCZHCLW…

What's it called when a product manager gets really excited after watching just one user research session?

This is an classic example (from 2005) of policy and service delivery not being joined up. I love the total disbelief from Blair when he realises what’s really been happening #servicedesign

I've been reading a whole load of "10 things I've learned adding Dalle-generated images to my dev blog". I get it – folks are (IMHO rightfully) excited about the promise of text-to-image tools, and what they can potentially unlock, for the visually-inept, like myself.

A slightly more generous take – I guess everyone's exploring what these wondrous tools can do and learning how to use them, and it's part of democratisation of creating things that look good.

But I wonder how to get good at actually using text-to-image tools effectively, instead of generating surprising eye-candy, which will get boring fast when everyone starts doing it. (The answer is probably just "get lots of practice", isn't it?)
