Two additional solutions that may help to solve the persistent traffic nightmare:
1. Even cities with good road networks like Delhi struggle with horrible traffic because of how badly people drive. Lanes being changed every 20 seconds, red lights being jumped, and people driving the wrong side of the road with impunity. This is an enforcement problem.
We need:
a) A nationwide campaign to educate people on what they can and cannot do.
b) Greater presence of traffic policemen to actually implement the law
c) An automated camera based system that takes pictures of violators, and challans them without exception.
Once people realise they WILL get fined, they will start driving better. After all, Indian drivers manage to follow the rules when they go abroad!
2. Pavements, walking tracks and bike paths to enable better connectivity especially to metro stations. If last mile connectivity improves, then more people will take to public transport. That will eventually enable steps to slash private vehicles, including congestion charges in the big cities.
More ideas are welcome!
After the Supreme Court recognised walking as a fundamental right, Indian cities have a moment to rethink what their roads are for.
Indian cities don’t just need more roads. They need better road networks.
Congestion isn’t only about road width. When links between arterials, secondary roads and local streets are missing, traffic gets forced onto a few corridors.
The fix is a shift from a congestion focus to a connectivity focus: complete road hierarchies, closing missing links, planning 10-15 years ahead, and backing it all with strong public transport.

The reason developers fearlessly flout norms is because they know they can get away with just few thousands of penalty.

Delhi GRAP-2 ki aisi ki taisi! 😂😂 by trucks
Spotted a truck bearing registration number HR-55 on the Meerut Expressway, near Akshardham, at approximately 11:08 PM tonight.
I am surprised that despite strict GRAP restrictions in Delhi-NCR, such vehicles are still being allowed to enter Delhi and contribute to the already alarming pollution levels.
What is the point of imposing GRAP-2 restrictions if enforcement agencies cannot stop violations on the ground?
@CPCB_OFFICIAL @NGTIndia @dtptraffic @DelhiPolice @CMODelhi @CAQM_Official @DelhiGovt
Requesting NGT, Delhi Traffic Police, CPCB, CAQM and all concerned authorities to urgently investigate this violation, verify the vehicle’s compliance and take strict action against those responsible.
Delhi cannot afford more pollution because of weak enforcement. Rules must be enforced, not just announced!

Incessant honking across India's cities and towns, including Mumbai is surely one cause of road rage apart from mental health issues for those who spend longer periods on the road.
There are habitual offenders, like two wheelers overtaking from the left, or four wheelers who are more insulated from sounds.
What could be a design intervention to reduce honking, via awareness or some other disincentives + incentives ?

As I keep telling people who love Noida's wide roads and greenery, it has the worst water quality, the worst air quality in NCR. The gases from all the open drains destroy your electric appliances too. My society used to have 1100+ TDS in the normal water supply.

“Kale Coat Wale Gunde”
The Attorney General of India, through @VPIndia and @MLJ_GoI, must seek an explanation on this from the Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, which oversees Delhi Police.
Such remarks by an ACP-rank officer are utterly condemnable. The DCP must provide a written response clarifying whether Delhi Police stands by these remarks or considers this an acceptable way to speak about advocates across India!

This ACP needs to be terminated and face legal action as per law . He is instigating the other uniform personnel that tantamount to treason . If he has any concerns he could have raised it internally on record, in writing with his superiors but this theatrics only denigrates the uniform . @HMOIndia
Delhi: Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashisht and other Delhi Police personnel gathered at Delhi Police Headquarters.
ACP Manasvi Vashisht says, "We have placed our demands before the Police Commissioner. He provided us with the meeting that we had requested. However, as we had expected, not many people got the opportunity to speak openly. Nevertheless, we have conveyed our demands to him, and they are being discussed. Some matters need to be resolved today... We had a total of five demands..."

I was looking for a new pair of jeans and somehow Lee came to mind.
I used to love Lee. In fact, I've pretty much worn only three jeans brands all my life: Lee, Levi's and Wrangler.
But I realised something - I can't remember the last time I walked into a Lee showroom. I hardly see their stores anymore, and even when I look online, the brand doesn't seem to show up much.
So I got curious and started reading about what happened to Lee Jeans. Turns out, things haven't been going too well.
In 2024, Lee made around $790 million in revenue and $90 million in profit. In 2025, revenue dropped to $750 million and profit fell to about $69 million. That's a 23% drop in profit in just one year.
And then I came across another interesting piece of news.
In May 2026, Kontoor Brands, which owns Lee, agreed to sell the brand to Authentic Brands Group for up to $1 billion. Interestingly, Kontoor is keeping Wrangler and Helly Hansen but letting go of Lee.
I find this quite fascinating. Lee is a brand I've grown up with. It has been around for more than a century. Yet, somewhere along the way, it seems to have lost its visibility and perhaps its connection with a new generation of buyers.
I don't know whether it's poor distribution, changing consumer preferences, competition or simply a failure to keep up with the market.
But it does make you wonder how many brands we grew up loving are quietly disappearing from our lives.
I hope Lee makes a comeback. I'd still happily buy another pair.

I went to France 24 home page expecting to read up on the riots last night and see the police and Macron's response. Instead, I kid you not, the lead story (yes lead) is:-
"Indian opposition parties stage mega rally seeking election chief’s resignation."
Why on earth would French people be interested in this?
The next story is "How far will 'Cockroach' movement go? India's youth-led protests defy Modi government" and "India bans march on parliament by ‘Cockroach’ activists, risking a standoff".
Can't see anything on the riots in France on its home page. Absolutely bizarre.

It’s 11 pm at night, an ambulance is surrounded by trucks and traffic, the tragedy of Delhi and India. NH 8 is jammed. It can be better but because the guys we voted to power and the bureaucracy and the cops don’t want to solve the situation. If you know it’s high traffic days, then why give permission to trucks to enter earlier into the city, wait for the roads to get empty, maybe midnight, maybe 1 am. The challenge is no one is monitoring. No one cares. No one even asks. The govt wants the votes but doesn’t want to serve or even do basic work. Please do something, work harder or maybe start working ? @CPDelhi @dtptraffic @LtGovDelhi @gupta_rekha @mssirsa @dcptsr

Rare appreciation post for @DelhiPolice - someone in the neighborhood was blasting music real loud at 1 am last night. Called 112, 10 minutes in, the cops showed up; 15 minutes later, the music stopped.
Got a call from the local police station too, offering to drop by later if the music again started up.
