I was laid off from Twitter this afternoon. I was in charge of managing badge access to Twitter offices. Elon just called me and asked if I could come back to help them regain access to HQ as they shut off all badges and accidentally locked themselves out.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is a joke, as evidenced by the author's responses: twitter.com/anothercohen/s… twitter.com/anothercohen/s…

This is terrible. There is a day left for the world leaders at #COP27 to do the right thing and make sure he is on a plane to the UK now. I have all the leverage they need. iIt’s a choice.
News from the visit are unsettling, @alaa deteriorated severely in the past 2 weeks, but atleast they got to see him, and he needed to see the family so much The family will share the full details later today, please bear with us #SaveAlaa #FreeAlaa

This holiday season Twitter fires 4K workers, Amazon fires 10K workers, & Facebook fires 11K workers—all while US Billionaire pandemic wealth increased an absurd $1.7T.😳 A reminder that billionaires don’t create jobs—they exploit workers. Tax billionaires. Unionize workers.

a friend's post about mastodon is really resonating w/ me this morning and is a good reason why I don't think the service is likely to gain a broad base of support: the decision to use it isn't based on UX, but rather, ideology cohost.org/tef/post/298638-s…

Elon Musk seems very determined to teach people that billionaires aren't any smarter than anyone else, that concentrations of wealth are bad for society and democracy, and that if millions of people band together we can kick billionaires' asses.

But they were, all of them, deceived, for another Check Mark was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, a master Check Mark was forged in secret to control all others. And into this Check Mark he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life.

You know you have lost your way when you are arguing for the greatest expansion of state surveillance and militarized police in modern history as the way to *avoid fascism.* Many of these pundits have no conception of how power works, and no understanding of social movements.

Voters, not legislators, not a governor or president, voters expanded #Medicaid in South Dakota today. When we take healthcare to the ballot we can win.
JUST IN: Voters approve Medicaid expansion in South Dakota, extending health coverage to 42,000 working class residents.

This is an important moment and point that the corporate media will ignore. When voters are presented with an earnest, highly competent, fun, funny, and transparent campaign about the waste, fraud, and abuse in police budgets, they overwhelmingly respond.

Like I always say with content moderation, every social media site owner who is “pro free speech” meets their line eventually. For 4chan, it was anime child porn. For Facebook and YouTube, it was white nationalist terror. For Elon, it was people making fun of him.
Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended

Ad-financing helped fuel this avalanche — this massive surveillance infrastructure, the design and algorithms to increase "engagement", many who exploit all this — and then we beg advertisers to please maybe kindly help negate some of the worst excesses. Not a great model.
