Great. Agree to hybrid approaches, particularly seeing how in real time trade dependencies even with middle powers expose defense weaknesses. I also believe for African states, data sovereignty has to come from a line of defense, and communicating strongly in that regard.

Read my most recent article on INEC's Electronic Innovations between 1999 and 2023 on @borgresearch
Evolution of the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) electronic innovations and their impact on electoral integrity (1999–2023). Culled from our recent policy paper which traces the 25-year trajectory of electronic innovation in Nigeria's electoral system from the manual, fraud-prone registers of 1999 to the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) in 2023 and argues that the country has consistently experienced what it terms a 'trust paradox': technology designed to build public confidence has, at critical moments, deepened disillusionment. While the internet offers significant opportunities for learning, creativity, and communication, it also exposes children to risks such as cyberbullying, harmful content, online exploitation, misuse of personal data, and emerging challenges linked to artificial intelligence tools. As Nigeria evaluates potential policy approaches for protection of children online, including age restrictions, improved age verification systems, platform accountability measures, and enhanced regulatory oversight, public input is essential to ensure that any framework adopted reflects national priorities, respects children’s rights, and responds to the realities of Nigeria’s digital landscape. We encourage parents, educators, young people, digital professionals, and all stakeholders to share their perspectives on this critical issue by completing the survey here- b.link/ChildOnlineSafety Your input will contribute to shaping evidence-based policies aimed at creating a safer digital environment for children in Nigeria. #ChildOnlineSafety #DataProtection

Communiqué on the Situation in #Venezuela. The African Union is following with grave concern the recent developments in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, including reports of the abduction of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicolás Maduro, and military attacks on Venezuelan institutions. The African Union reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the fundamental principles of international law, including respect for the sovereignty of States, their territorial integrity, and the right of peoples to self-determination, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. The African Union underscores the importance of dialogue, peaceful settlement of disputes, and respect for constitutional and institutional frameworks, in a spirit of good neighbourliness, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence among nations. The African Union emphasizes that the complex internal challenges facing Venezuela can only be sustainably addressed through inclusive political dialogue among Venezuelans themselves. The African Union expresses its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reiterates its commitment to the promotion of peace, stability, and mutual respect among nations and regions. The African Union calls upon all parties concerned to exercise restraint, responsibility, and respect for international law to prevent any escalation and to preserve regional peace and stability. Following the historic success of the 17th replenishment of the African Development Fund which mobilised a record $11 billion, @AfDB_Group President Sidi Ould Tah and Baroness Chapman convened the Africa Private Capital Mobilisation Day in London, bringing public and private partners together to scale coordinated private capital solutions for Africa’s development. The discussions focus on how concessional finance, guarantees, co-financing and risk-sharing can work together to crowd in private investment at scale, lower the cost of capital and accelerate delivery.
