"Death Wish 4: The Crackdown" was released on this day in 1987. Outrageously entertaining action sequel from director J. Lee Thompson and screenwriter Gail Morgan Hickman.
Highlight: The fantastic go-for-broke performance by John P. Ryan carries the entire film. (He's one of the most underrated character actors ever.)
While "Death Wish 4: The Crackdown" was a major box office disappointment, it eventually became the most successful home video release ever for Charles Bronson.
The film opens with a brilliant quasi-parody of the series (the whole dream sequence is expertly directed, and actually the best scene in the entire picture), then shifts into pure 80s action mode for the remainder of its running time. While the violence is still gratuitously over-the-top, this fourth entry eschewed the sleaziness of the other sequels and provided Kersey with an interesting (albeit predictable) story and several memorable supporting characters.
It doesn't ever reach the sheer insanity of "Death Wish 3" (a film that is its own genre in and of itself), but "4" isn't a bore. Arguably the most rewatchable film of the series, and definitely the most underrated.

To all my Friends, Rockies fans, current and past Players, members of the entire Colorado Rockies Organization top to bottom,
I would like to extend my appreciation and love for being part of an incredible journey for over 20 years.
I was granted the opportunity to coach and manage this club. Then, I was asked to come back and mentor the young players and future leaders of this organization. Both were gifts. Thank you to Dick Monfort for trusting me with both of those journeys and for always treating me like family and making Colorado feel like home.
What I will hold onto most isnโt the wins. Itโs the people! They are what Rocktober was built on. Thatโs what the next great Rockies team will be built on too.
With my last day being October 31, 2026โฆ.just know that I am not retiringโฆbut rather recalculating my journey personally and professionally.
In the words of my favorite Doctorโฆ.โDonโt be sad itโs over be glad it happenedโ - Dr. Seuss
Thank you for your support over the years. My family and I have loved our time in Colorado, and will always cherish our memories in purple.
Make a difference today,
Love Clint

When George Brett talks hitting everyone should listen!
Notice that when he demonstrates what happens when you try to hit the ball far.
He inadvertently imitates @Teacherman1986 back shoulder collapse.
Priceless!

Just seven players have 3,000 hits and 500 dingers, and Eddie Murray is the only switch hitter in the group. Also: Led the bigs in sideburns when America needed that most. Happy birthday, Eddie Murray!
