Make em fear the left hook, then nail em with the right. Make em fear the right hand, then nail em with the left. Rinse, repeat, rinse repeat.

After a four-year absence from boxing because of World War II, Joe Louis returned to the ring to fight a familiar nemesis on June 19, 1946. In front of 45,266 spectators in Yankee Stadium and thousands more tuning in to NBC for the first heavyweight title bout broadcast on TV, Louis squared off against Billy Conn for the sequel to the pair’s 1941 fight.

Michael Spinks had beaten Larry Holmes twice and never lost a professional fight. Mike Tyson ended his unbeaten record in just 91 seconds. Mike Tyson vs. Michael Spinks Convention Hall, Atlantic City. June 27, 1988. Tyson entered at 34–0, holding the WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight titles. Spinks was 31–0 and recognized as the lineal heavyweight champion. Spinks had made history by moving up from light heavyweight to defeat Holmes in 1985, then beating him again in their rematch. Those victories established his claim to the heavyweight crown, making this one of the biggest fights of the decade. But against a 21-year-old Tyson, he barely had time to settle in. Tyson pressured him from the opening bell, dropping Spinks to one knee with a combination. Spinks got up, but Tyson immediately followed with a right hand that sent him down for the count. Referee Frank Cappuccino counted Spinks out at 1:31 of the first round. Tyson improved to 35–0, settling the last major competing claim to the heavyweight championship. It was the final fight of Spinks’ professional career. #BoxingHistory #Boxing

Iron Mike Tyson! He didn't only beat up his opponents, he sent them to early retirement. 🥊

Rocky III is a beautiful film in ways that are different than the first Rocky, which won the Oscar for Best Picture. Rocky III explores what it means to have something to lose & to fight to protect it, whereas the original film is more about an underdog’s climb to the top. Both explore powerful themes. But Rocky III doesn’t seem to get the same recognition. I think this film is nearly flawless.

Ali thought it was a walkover fight for him 🤣🤣 Ali vs Wepner, 24 March 1975 – the dirty fight that birthed Rocky. Heavyweight champion Ali, fresh off the Rumble in the Jungle, took a soft touch against liquor salesman and “Bayonne Bleeder” Chuck Wepner at Richfield Coliseum. Odds were 10-1 Ali; he barely trained. Wepner arrived with one plan: maul, clinch, and foul. From the opening bell it turned ugly. Wepner repeatedly rabbit-punched Ali in the back of the head. Ali complained, the referee did little, and the champion retaliated with the same illegal shots. It stayed a brawl of elbows, low blows, and head hits. In round 9 Wepner landed a body shot as he stepped on Ali’s foot. Ali hit the canvas for an official knockdown—the fourth and last of his career. He insisted it was a trip. Furious and with lumps already swelling on the back of his head, Ali stopped coasting. He punished the challenger for the final six rounds and stopped him with 19 seconds left in the 15th. A mismatch that became legendary: the night an underdog’s heart and dirt forced the Greatest to get angry—and inspired Stallone’s Rocky.

It’s being reported that Deontay Wilder and Jai Opetaia have agreed a deal to fight on the Fury vs Joshua undercard. From a boxing standpoint, it’s a very odd fight. Clearly, it’s a good payday for Opetaia against the most high-profile name he’s fought. But what’s the point in Opetaia moving up to heavyweight when he’s not planning on staying there? That being said, it is a fun fight. I’m fascinated by it in a strange way. #fightclub247 #boxing #fighter #champion #furyjoshua

Do the fans ever feel sorry for Fury? The fact he had to serve a 2 year ban for just having some wild Boar for dinner? It never gets talked about that Tyson had a 2 year drug ban for steroid use and all he did was eat a bit of meat……. Hopefully he has a better nutritionist for the fight with AJ 💉 #FuryJoshua

“OH MY GOD HE’S WON THE TITLE BACK AT THIRTY-TWO!” The great Harry Carpenter’s words STILL make the hairs stand on end after 52 years! Would you say this is the greatest moment in sports history? I think it’s in the Top 1.
