While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected.
Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions.
Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent.
But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models?
We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem.

Michael @broukhim believes being an expert can actually hold entrepreneurs back.
He argues that knowing too much about an industry can create blind spots, while investing in unfamiliar ideas helped him discover new opportunities.
Michael on how investing expanded his thinking:
“If you're not growing, you're dying.”
“We started the brand in 2010, and there was time to start exploring at the peripheries, initially through investing.”
“Take this student of mine, an incredible entrepreneur, his name is @ashergenoot .”
“One year he said, ‘I'm starting this @Bitcoin mining company’... decided to invest in him and kind of went up the learning curve with him.”

My conversation with Michael @broukhim.
Michael is the co-founder of @FabFitFun and @Deep33Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on AI, robotics, and frontier technologies. He's also an early investor in companies like @SpaceX and @Stripe.
We discuss why AI has become a national security issue, the growing technological rivalry between America and China, and why controlling AI infrastructure will be critical to the future of global power.
We also discuss:
- Why the US-Israel technology alliance matters for the AI race
- How opposition to AI and data centers could slow American innovation
- Why he shifted from consumer businesses to investing in hard tech
- How running FabFitFun shaped his approach to venture capital
- How layoffs, COVID, and his brother's cancer diagnosis changed his perspective on life

Michael @broukhim believes the US-Israel alliance is critical to winning the AI race.
Few places have the industries and talent needed for frontier innovation.
Michael on why Israel matters:
“This relationship between these two ecosystems was really key in terms of winning not only the AI race, but just frontier technologies in general.”
“Silicon Valley looks like that, there's pockets of China that look like that, and Israel looks like that, and there's basically nowhere else in the world.”

Michael @broukhim believes opposition to AI data centers is being used to divide Americans.
He argues that data centers are driving economic growth and job creation, yet public backlash could undermine America's technological progress.
Michael on why the backlash concerns him:
“Data centers and the AI revolution are driving incredible GDP growth, incredible job creation.”
“The fact that people are up in arms about it, I think there's a question of how did they get up in arms? What is in their feeds?”
“Data centers is a bigger and better wedge to divide Americans when it comes to our geopolitical rivals.”

When I was 18, studying at Chabad yeshiva in Los Angeles, I’d spend three hours a day walking the streets, meeting Jews and asking them to wrap tefillin.
On a Sunday in eraly 2023 I met @FabFitFun Founder’s @broukhim and his brother @danielbroukhim.
Michael had already wrapped that day. After some convincing, Daniel wrapped too, and he loved the experience. He invited me to their office, and we started learning Torah together.
Every time I returned to LA, I made sure to visit them.
Before the High Holidays this year, I reached out to Michael and suggested getting a few people together.
He said, “Why just a few? Let’s do an event and call it WrapFest.”
The first event brought together over 200 Jewish founders, investors, and builders.
What started with a chance encounter over brunch has grown into something much bigger.
Best day of my life was marrying @CBroukhim.
Friends all remember it as the COVID closing party for the world. Before and after it was 🥜
Michael @broukhim got married just days before the world shut down.
But COVID was only part of the story. In the weeks surrounding his wedding, the @FabFitFun co-founder faced major business setbacks and a devastating family diagnosis.
Michael on everything that happened:
“About a month before my wedding, we had to lay off 100 people.”
“My wedding was on March 7th, 2020. Anyone who had their wedding that weekend, it was the last weddings of the world.”
“And then six weeks after it, my brother was diagnosed with cancer.”

Michael @broukhim warns that America's open internet can be exploited by its adversaries.
He argues that the same freedom of speech that makes the US information system valuable also leaves it vulnerable to manipulation.
Michael on the dangers of information warfare:
“We're living in a world of hoaxes or information psyops.”
“The other side of the coin of freedom of speech is not only are we free to say anything, but people can blend in and say anything.”
“There's a lot of people who'd like to see the United States not do well.”

Trump accounts are going to be expanded beyond kids — accounts for all Americans.
They’re one of the best accomplishments of this administration, and I expect Anthropic + OpenAI to contribute bigly.
Bless all who’ve worked on this @altcap @MichaelDell @avonfurstenberg, etc
Anthropic launching their own Universal Basic Income by committing 5% of shares to “the public”
at a their last valuation that’s $48,000,000,000, what’s more is they’ll commit up to 2% more of the company with every 50% increase in valuation.
one of the reasons they cited was upcoming instability with peoples jobs as AI approaches super intelligence.
my question: how do they plan to distribute this to the public?

I spend my days with founders on long builds, in hostile environments, on specs that don't care who believes. The Torah gets retold every year because the stories don't age. Noah's is the one about building.
It ends with a rainbow and a promise: the water won't come again. Read it closely and the promise binds God, not us. He swore off ending the story. Our side is in the same chapter: fill the earth, set up courts, stop the robbery.
