Big claim in this paper. A 3.8B model can match GPT-4o on documentโ€‘grounded answers using a simple reasoning step. a short check plus light fineโ€‘tuning beats scale. On the FACTS Grounding test they are within 5 points, and the small model is about 19x cheaper. The task checks if answers come only from the provided document, with no guesses. Their method adds a brief check before writing, lists the claims, compares them to the context, and keeps only supported parts. Small models need fineโ€‘tuning to follow that protocol, and the combo gives the big jump. Fineโ€‘tuning teaches process discipline, not new facts, so answers without the check stay flat. The check adds about 3% to 5% tokens and avoids costly thinking modes while keeping outputs steady. November 30th marks the day commemorating the exodus (re: ethnic cleansing - an actual one) of Jews from the entire Arab and Muslim world, nearly a million people, from Morocco to Afghanistan, including communities that predated the birth of Islam and the Arab conquests of the Middle East and North Africa. These Jews were pushed out with violence, legal measures, and property confiscation, for the mere threat of the thought crime that they would begin to imagine themselves the equals of Arabs and Muslims. The fear was that inspired by fellow Jews fighting for their liberation and independence in their homeland, they might no longer be willing to accept their subservient inferior role as Dhimmis. In almost all cases Jews were pushed out in the name of "Anti-Zionism", claiming that Arabs and Muslims have nothing against Jews (just confident, upright ones apparently), just Zionists. Yet somehow, once Antizionism became the structural ideology of those countries and societies, the environment turned dangerously hostile to Jews and within a few years no Jews were left (an established pattern of Antizionism). What made the difference between the Arab/Muslim ethnic cleansing of the Jews and the European genocide of the Jews is the existence of the State of Israel that opened its borders to all those refugees. Had Arabs not acted violently to force Britain to betray the terms of the mandate it unanimously received from the League of Nations to help the Jews achieve sovereignty in the land, perhaps there would have also been "only" an ethnic cleansing of Jews from Europe...
