The investigative reports describe horrifying violence: In August 2000, two young women agreed to give Edwards a ride after he claimed his vehicle had broken down. He pulled a handgun, held one woman around the neck, and forced them toward a secluded area. He left one woman beside a rural road, then sexually assaulted and raped the other at gunpoint. He stole their purses and the driver’s rings. DNA testing later matched Edwards to semen recovered from the car. Weeks later, Edwards entered another woman’s apartment after asking to use her telephone.
