all of the people who came up to me and others in line at the polling booth and found out they couldn't enrol were elderly, mainly white + one older chinese couple. i don't think it's unreasonable to think that they might not have heard about the new change to enrolment rules
Replying to @dreadconquest
Did you tell them that under the Electoral Act, they were required to enrol once they turn 18?

National tanked the economy but blame it all on "oil". The difference to Labour (if we accept the prima facie premise that all debt is bad,) is that Labour ran surpluses until #COVID19 -19 hit & spent to save lives and preserve jobs. National tanked the economy from the start

I always vote on the first day. Today is the first day of voting so I went to the Wainuiomata advance voting place at the hall. It is closed. A disgrace. Along with early roll closing it is looking like the voter suppression you expect from Trump or Hungary not here in Aotearoa.

You're a bit muddled Sime Prices through the roof, an economy going backwards, promises not kept all on you! Plus 35,000 jobs gone,1/3 of families need food, 50,000 more kids living in poverty, the highest no. of homeless in NZ history, building industry tanked, health in crisis!
Chris Hipkins wants you to imagine his "first week as Prime Minister.” Kiwis don't have to imagine. We lived through 44 of them. Prices through the roof, an economy going backwards, and promises that never arrived. We've seen this movie before. It doesn't need a sequel. Voting is now open. Party Vote National to stick to the plan that’s working and to avoid Labour and their mates’ 9 new taxes.

Regardless of political party support or affiliation, I think we can all agree that any government that passes a law to make it harder to enrol and vote is a bad govt.
He fails to mention that for 40 years, New Zealanders have been able to enrol right up until midnight before election day. The last two elections we could even enrol on election day. It’s a massive backwards step that many people won’t know about until they try vote.

My UK son said voting is much more difficult than last time. He nearly gave up- said many will. Vote has to be witnessed. Couldn't confirm he'd voted as there was a 'system failure', can't go back and check, one sign in only allowed. O/seas votes favour the left. Don't they?
There is always a Simpsons clip.

I spent this morning at Avondale Markets enrolling people to vote. Unlike previous elections there were no Elections staff present to take enrolments. And they have not been present at any previous market this year. This cannot be accidental. #NZPolitics

this young interviewer completely embarrasses christopher luxon, who tries to say the kid doesn't know the details of the move-on bill, only for the kid to come back and grill him on the details, while luxon just stammers and deflects. clip via voteotago on instagram

Luxon/Willis both claiming they'll create 220,000 jobs when their total for 3 years is MINUS 35,000? Plus every govt since 1986 has added on average, yearly, 34,000 jobs. But not the coalition! Labour governments create jobs.
L A B O U R P O L I C Y Labour will build the homes, improve the schools and repair the hospitals our communities need - creating good jobs, supporting local businesses, and getting Kiwis back on the tools. labour.org.nz/start-work-now #VoteLabour

Yet more misinfo. Inflation hit 7.3% at the beginning of the Ukraine war, it soared GLOBALLY. US & UK got to 10%. Oil prices were at $139/barrel & grain, food prices skyrocketed GLOBALLY. Ours came down faster than most. G Robertson had our international credit rating upgraded.
Before the last election inflation hit 7.3%, debt soared, crime exploded and education results were in decline. And now, three years later, our economy is growing faster than Australia and the UK, inflation is down, kids are back in school learning the basics, and there are fewer victims of crime. The choice this election is clear: keep going with National's plan for a stronger economy and a more secure future, or go back to Labour's reckless spending and high taxes. Let's not leave the job half done. Party Vote National.

Lots of voters left for work or survival due to this incompetent so-called govt. Unemployment rate DOWN. Now they want to vote & get some revenge. Mostly left leaning. What could possibly go wrong from this desperate anti-democratic govt?? Need the GG involved here... #nzpol

Such a strong conflict of interest Its so corrupt for a major donor to launch this campaign while taking $millions in real estate fees for selling state houses and land put aside for houses Especially when there are so many homeless #newstalkzb @1NewsNZ @nzherald @rnz_news
Bayleys Real Estate launched National’s Hawkes Bay campaign. They very clearly want them to win. They have won several contracts to sell state houses and land since 23. Good on RNZ for this article: Sale of Wellington state houses sparks local backlash rnz.co.nz/news/regions_welli…

stuff.co.nz/national/3000508… She admitted it in 2020, they were wrong to sell state houses. So far they've sold 800, built very few, during a housing crisis! We have the worst level of homlessness in NZ's history. And still she can't balance the books. Do share on social media.

Two weeks to go! Stop talking about gangs! Post all over social media Labour/Greens policies - jobs, building infrastructure, health, cost of living, etc. Coalition's appalling stats for CoL, unemployment, health crisis, environment, the economy! No plan, just more job cuts!

Last #NZ election, 450,000 of the special votes cast were by those who enrolled in the 2 weeks before the election. 110,000 enrolled on the day. This is the scale of the potential disenfranchisement of the Govt law change stopping enrolment on 25 October: nzherald.co.nz/the-listener/…

Remember how Luxon's Chief Policy Advisor asked Fonterra and Z Energy to use Gmail to avoid public awareness? And then copied and pasted their requests into law? That's criminal but apparently it doesn't matter if the people in question aren't brown

rnz.co.nz/news/politics_elec… Only 12% of 1300 surveyed want the terminal. It wd cost $1billion up front & another $1b at least to complete. This money shd be spent on health. Plus it'll increase power bills as companies will pass the govt levies on to consumers- @nzlabour tell them!

NZ First’s policies could cost $72b – and that doesn’t include buying back the BNZ, via @nzherald nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/n… He always gets what he wants. How would Nicola balance the budget let alone get to surplus?
