TW/ Femicide A thread: Day 1 of #16Days. It is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and today we honour those who have lost their lives to gender-based violence. Every name is one name too many. #16DaysOfActivism #16DaysofActivism2020 #ChalkBack

This what genocide looks like
Extremely difficult scenes: An Israeli drone targeted a child with live ammunition in one of the streets of northern Gaza. When citizens gathered to rescue and assist him, they were hit by a direct strike, turning them into scattered remains.

Just today. But let’s ban crossbows instead of addressing male violence.

Shoutout to the Queens Park Ladies under-12s! These unstoppable girls won a boys' league, going unbeaten all season & scoring 61 goals! Facing early resistance, they proved #SkillKnowsNoGender, dominating the league and earning the "Invincibles" title. #GirlPower #EqualityInSport

I don’t think people really understand how genuinely terrifying it can be for a woman to reject a man in case he loses his sh*t.

Serial rapist that committed three of the rapes while he was on bail. Police involvement - far from being a wake-up call - had the opposite effect. He’s also blamed the victims and deflected all responsibility. But sure - “less blameworthy”.
Liam Hughes has been jailed for six-and-a-half years after he raped three schoolgirls, and sexually assaulted another. Lord Young said what he did as an "immature teenager is less blameworthy than if you had carried out these acts as an older man" 👇 trib.al/0Jinfnw

What an absolute honour and some sunshine to a wet grey day to find out I have been shortlisted for the @UNWomenUK 2023 awards in the Safe Spaces Now category alongside such an incredible group of changemakers. Congratulations to all the other nominees!

Elianne Andam’s funeral takes place in Croydon today. The 15 year old was fatally stabbed on her way to school in September. Two of her aunts Regina Boafo and Ruby Paintsil spoke to me yesterday about how they’ll be remembering her.

“Either you drive and leave me alone or I’ll pop your tyres” *casually starts looking in bag for something to pop them with.* LOVE HER. This is the confidence you need out there girls!

This 16-year-old girl represented herself in an employment hearing and won! She was sacked after making a complaint about sexual harassment. She is one of the youngest people ever to win an employment tribunal. I’m just here to say the youth are alright and I’m so proud of her!

You know what makes me dislike (some) (many) men more than any statistic or awful story I’ve heard? The men in my comments section that fight like their lives depends on it to negate the experiences and stories of women.

27,684 submissions in 6 years. - 68% from girls under the age of 18 - Of that 48% were wearing a school uniform - In 98% of those cases, the perpetrators were adult men

A former GCHQ worker, driven by incel ideology and resentment towards Secret Services, turns to terrorism in a harrowing act of violence. This case starkly illuminates the dark pathways some traverse when social alienation intertwines with radical political discontent.

Men dismissing stories of harassment by saying “well if that’s harassment, then every woman I know has been harassed” are so close to getting the point.

Speaking to The Independent, women’s activist Farah Benis said: “Every station needs to have staff. I think it’s not only a failure of the rail service but a failure in taking people’s safety into account.” independent.co.uk/news/uk/cr…

This is by far one of the most unhinged and scary videos I’ve been sent. She stated that another woman came to help her and told her to run. It has to stop.

Woke up to see a old friend of mine standing up to this man troubling 15 year olds on the train. Men sat by and did nothing. Proud of her.

Young women have told us how the fear of male violence makes them feel unsafe and impacts their mental health. More needs to be done to stop rising male violence against girls and young women and the dangerous misogynistic ideologies that feed it.
