Cell Protocol retweeted
I've spent the past few days trying out Cell @cellprotocol_
1/6 An instant-transfer app on @StellarOrg : an operator sets up a public escrow that anyone can audit, users deposit into it, send to each other instantly and for free inside the channel, and when they want to withdraw, the operator approves and the funds go back to their wallet.
I tested the full flow on testnet, step-by-step guide in the thread below 👇
⚠️ This is my testnet experience, not financial advice. Do your own research (DYOR) before using any crypto product, and never share your seed phrase.

I came to @cellprotocol_ to test a product.
and somehow, I ended up running my own tenant on @StellarOrg.
escrow deployed. operator configured. XLM channel opened.
here's what stood out.
firstly, what exactly is Cell?
think of Cell as a private room built on top of stellar.
you deploy an escrow you control and open an asset inside it.
that asset becomes a channel where users hold balances.
funds enter through the blockchain, move privately within the channel, and leave when users withdraw.
the idea is simple.
keep the settlement on-chain while making activity inside the channel private.
what I built: tenant INTREPID
here's how I got everything running:
🔹named my tenant and selected the network.
🔹signed and deployed the escrow, making my key the admin.
🔹opened XLM as a channel with a 10 XLM release cap.
🔹added a dedicated operator key for my tenant.
🔹funded the operator account with XLM to cover fees.
the setup went smoothly, and I got the confirmation I wanted:
INTREPID IS LIVE.
I now had a deployed escrow, a separate operator, and an open XLM channel.
the security design deserves attention.
Cell separates permissions instead of giving one key access to everything.
• admin: handles contract upgrades and higher-level control.
• operator: handles permitted payout operations but can't upgrade the contract or open new assets.
• release cap: limits the amount that can be released under a single operator signature.
this separation matters.
if an operator key is compromised, it can be replaced without automatically handing over admin control.
the admin key remains the more sensitive one, and Cell makes that risk clear during setup.
I also appreciated the warnings around key management.
crypto interfaces need to communicate risks clearly, not hide them in documentation nobody reads.
the console is more than a dashboard.
here's what I explored:
• overview: check the escrow state and withdrawal information.
• channels: manage assets, pause channels, and adjust payout limits without redeploying the escrow.
• accounts: control access through open, invite-only, or approval-based settings, with blocking options.
• referrals: generate invitation links and track sign-ins and deposits.
• contract: inspect escrow details, code hash, fee balance, and payout proofs.
• audit log: review recorded actions, who performed them, and when.
my own log recorded actions such as "tenant.create" and "channel.open".
I like being able to see what's happening instead of having to guess what the system did behind the scenes.
the member experience
I also explored the member side to understand how users interact with the channel.
deposits use a stellar transaction that calls "deposit()" on the escrow.
users pay the network fee, while Cell takes no deposit fee.
the channel is designed to support private, instant transfers between members.
that distinction between on-chain deposits and private activity inside the channel is one of the core things worth understanding about Cell.
ux feedback: five things I'd improve
testing isn't just about finding what works.
it's also about noticing what could work better.
here are five things I identified and submitted through the feedback form:
• mobile layout needs work.
on my phone, the deposit and send pages push their right-hand panels off-screen.
the operator's remove button is also clipped on the contract page.
the sidebar takes up a noticeable amount of screen space.
a collapsible sidebar and stacked panels would make the experience much better on mobile.
• send review displays a result too early.
the message "balance after: 100.00 XLM" appears before an address is entered.
showing a dash until the input is valid would make the information clearer.
• transaction confirmation needs more detail.
during the "confirming on chain…" stage, I saw a spinner but no transaction hash or explorer link.
the contract page already provides a "view on explorer" option, so adding a similar link during confirmation would help users verify progress.
• release-cap guidance could be clearer.
the setup explains what release caps do, but doesn't suggest a starting value.
the option to leave the field empty for an uncapped release could also use a more prominent warning.
• deposits need a max button.
entering long balances on mobile can be fiddly.
a max button would make it easier to use the available balance without manually typing the amount.
these are opportunities to make the product clearer and easier to use.
my verdict
Cell gave me a straightforward onboarding experience, clear explanations of key permissions, and a console with plenty of useful controls.
but what I appreciate most is that I could explore the product, identify specific friction points, and turn those observations into actionable feedback.
that's more valuable than simply clicking through a testnet and calling it a day.
I'm keeping an eye on Cell as I continue exploring what it can do.
want to try it yourself?
I opened my channel to the public.

Imagine running a business where every competitor, vendor, and client can see your exact payroll and payouts on a block explorer.
That’s the reality for most chains—and why real-world adoption stalls.
So instead of just talking about this innovative tech..
I spent time testing @cellprotocol_ on the Stellar Testnet to see how their private payment channels hold

Every test matters.
Every transfer, bug report, UI/UX comment, and piece of product feedback helps us understand what works and what still needs to improve.
We can’t build Cell without the people actually using it.
We’re happy to share that Cell has passed the Idea stage for SCF #46 🍏
It’s another step forward for what we’re building on @StellarOrg, and everyone testing Cell and sharing feedback is helping us move the product forward.
