Nigeria's ability to manufacture medicines locally is an important step towards self-sufficiency. But as long as the country depends on imported ingredients to make those medicines, a critical part of its pharmaceutical supply chain remains outside its control. Accelerating domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients is therefore not simply an industrial ambition. It is a question of medicine security, economic resilience and the country's ability to protect the health of its population. #FHC2026 #WorldBankSideEvent @Fmohnigeria

#NHWQUOTEOFTHEWEEK To move more health innovations from promising ideas to solutions that can reach communities at scale, we must create an environment where private investors are confident to participate. Governments, innovators and development partners must work together to take the first step, prove what is possible and make it easier for private investment to follow. #FHC2026 @Fmohnigeria

“What began as a blog has grown into an organisation helping shape conversations about Nigeria’s health system.” Reflecting on the journey of @nighealthwatch at #FHC2026, Dr @Chikwe_I traced how knowledge became consciousness, consciousness became advocacy, and advocacy led to building an organisation committed to keeping critical health issues on the public agenda. His story is a reminder that meaningful change begins with understanding a problem and finding the courage to act on it. #TheFutureOfHealthIsNow

Looking back on the closing keynote at #WHS2026, speakers pointed out the challenges that still stand in the way of saving mothers and children in Africa, even though many of the interventions needed to save their lives are already known. African countries need to adapt, finance, and sustain these interventions so that every woman and newborn receives consistent, high-quality care.
