We are going all in on marmo string pulling, think behavior/ephys/2p/lesions. Come join our team as a grad student or post-doc. Email me.
📢 New lab preprint 📢 We provide the first description of string pulling by the common marmoset. I think this will prove a valuable paradigm for studying the neural basis of reaching and grasping as well as bimanual coordination with these creatures. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

This is a great gov't initiative. A few months ago there was a big blow-up about a scientific illustration company, w/ complaints about its cost, and bad licensing terms for drawings.
Now @NIAIDNews / @NIH made a bunch of drawings for the public domain. That's a service...1/
Free scientific illustrations for biologists! 😍
@NIH has released a library of 500+ free scientific illustrations to create figures, presentations, and illustrations!
all freely available in the public domain.

Hi to everyone who so enthusiastically liked the brain cookies. Hope you stay for the brains!

The indie vibe is right on point, this looks like a great forum—I’m in (you too @NicoleCRust?)
@jocnforum @mitpress really taking the idea of a ‘soft launch’ to heart, lol (it’s the best “washed-out-and-grainy” that they could pull off on short notice 😅)
Yes, great to see the shift happening. And looking forward to tomorrow’s @NSF NeuroNex satellite on this topic!
Replying to @NicoleCRust @dlevenstein
Also, as @cimoore444 is great at reminding me, our field was named after just one of many types of cells in the brain. Interesting to see that sentiment make it into the public discourse:

What are mechanisms in neuroscience? How can we support clarity & progress? 🧠📕🖊️
Article in @_TheTransmitter w @DaniSBassett & Ross with comments from John Krakauer @blamlab @LucinaUddin Arnsten @DesrochersLab @aa_fenton @kaczkurkin @ar0mcintosh @PessoaBrain & @mike_yassa !
Lauren Ross @ProfLaurenRoss and @DaniSBassett outline the different ways neuroscientists use the term mechanism, and they gather insight from nine scientists on how this variety makes it difficult to clarify standards in the field.

It was so much fun! Amazing work with ties to animal work, education, public policy (I didn’t get to mention in my intro that she’s been cited in a Supreme Court brief!) and more. If you don’t know her work, you should!
one of the coolest things about #SfN24 has been the amazing talks, especially Dr. Beatriz Luna’s lecture today. the session also had a fantastic moderator (@DesrochersLab 👀)! 🧠
Great choice for the Nobel, and kudos to my wonderful colleague @neimarkgeffen, whose insights as an undergrad led to a great addition to our understanding of mechanosensation, and great collaboration with Dr Hopfield
