The Irish waste management industry is asking the public not to bin batteries following an increase in #fires sparked by #batteries, #vapes and #electronics being thrown into household bins. Lithium-ion batteries are a hazard as they can spark a fire when crushed by a bin lorry
🚛 Earlier this year, our colleague Michael Dixon showed incredible courage while out on his collection rounds in Southend.
Michael came across a medical emergency and, without hesitation, took action. Drawing on CPR training he had completed just one week earlier, Michael administered life-saving chest compressions under the guidance of the Ambulance Service until paramedics arrived.
We're incredibly proud of Michael who quickly recognised something was wrong and stepped in to help.
This incident is a powerful reminder of the value of first aid training. Since September 2024, SUEZ has partnered with the @TheBHF to train more than 1,600 colleagues in CPR and lifesaving skills, many of them in frontline roles serving communities every day.
Michael's story shows that with the right knowledge; anyone can help save a life. ❤️ If you'd like to learn CPR or refresh your skills, the British Heart Foundation has free resources available: bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/…

Never Bin Vapes - Always Recycle for Free!♻️

Latest @daera_ni waste data shows that energy recovery from waste has for the first time outgrown recycling levels in Northern Ireland. What's not made clear is that the majority of this energy recovery is happening abroad where NI waste is fuelling Energy from Waste facilities in Scandinavia - due to lack of local infrastructure here. This exposes our increasing reliance on waste export markets to manage our residual waste which is not economically, environmentally, or reputationally sustainable. The only solution remains the @_arc21 residual waste project which will maximise the value of our waste here.
