Surprising. Astounding. Staggering. Unnerving. Bewildering. Flabbergasting. Disquieting. Gobsmacking. Shocking. Mind boggling.

The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.
Thank you @climatewest_ca for leading and enhancing the #climate resilience and adaptation of #Prairie Provinces and residents to existing and emerging challenges posed by climate change. We look forward to seeing everyone at the #Forum
The countdown is on! In just under a week, we'll be hosting our #CWForum in Winnipeg! 🎉

@TranBC MUST consider Infrastructure Canada's CRBCPI future climatic design data to reinstate highways and bridges.
We have applied the data, codes, and guidelines to inform climate-resilient infrastructure design in many jurisdictions in Canada.

Many studies seek to use #satellite_soil_moisture data as a low-cost solution to monitor agricultural water use. But does the satellite soil moisture observation truly contain the #irrigation signal?

Considering the impacts of climate change in engineering practice is analogous to including forecasts of long-term demands for infrastructure use as a factor in design.
Our specialists work with engineering firms to develop science-led project-specific climate design parameters.
This is why existing infrastructure must be rehabilitated to incorporate climate change considerations while new infrastructure must integrate future-looking climate design parameters.
It's so hot in the Pacific Northwest that roads are buckling.
Asphalt and concrete roadways are expanding and cracking and even Interstate 5 has been impacted amid a heat wave that has sent temperatures soaring to dangerous levels.

Temperature records shattered. The heat dome has critical implications for water scarcity management in western Canada this summer. It will set precedence for drought risks and adaptation planning going forward.

A dangerous #heatwave, unprecedented in modern times, is expected in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Forecast maximum temperatures in excess of 40C are expected for several days, well above model climatic extremes

Mid-range weather models continue to show just an incredible heat wave across the western US and Canada through the last week of June.
If somewhat accurate, upper 30s to 40C values across parts of the western provinces could be on the table. 🔥

How has temperature changed where you're from? In Canada, average temperatures are warming twice as fast as the global average. Rising seas, thawing permafrost, unprecedented heatwaves and wildfires: the impacts of climate change are here and now. #ShowYourStripes
