“While serving as a General Authority Seventy, I had one of those unexpected teaching moments that life presents to us. This was when the financial crash was in full swing and our country was experiencing the most drastic drop in the economy since the Great Depression. Every day there were new announcements. The stock market crash. The collapse of the housing market. Major banks, mortgage companies, retirement funds, and investment houses were failing. There was talk of massive government bailouts. Unemployment was skyrocketing. A dark cloud had settled over the country and was spreading to other nations. In the fall of 2007, my assignment as a General Authority Seventy was in Salt Lake City, working in the Church Office Building. One day I went down to a small cafeteria in the basement of the Church Administration Building that is reserved for General Authorities. After getting my food, I saw that four of my colleagues in the Seventy were seated at a table for six, just starting to eat. They invited me to join them. We spoke briefly about our various assignments, but soon the talk turned to the current financial crisis. It didn’t take long for our conversation to become quite bleak in tone. One of the brethren had a grandchild who had recently graduated with an MBA but was having no luck in finding employment. Another reported that a grandchild was unsure about wanting to get married and bring children into the world. About that time, as this cloud of gloom settled over our lunch table, Russell M. Nelson, then Elder Nelson of the Twelve, came into the lunchroom with a tray of food. Seeing that we had a vacant spot at our table, he joined us. He ate quietly for a time as our conversation went right on in that same sense of discouragement. Finally, one of the brethren said, “They’re talking about the possibility of the whole government of the United States failing. Then what shall we do?” Elder Nelson, who hadn’t said much since sitting down, laid down his fork and looked at us directly. His expression was very sober as he spoke quietly, saying something like this: “Brethren, the Lord chose the United States of America as the place for the Restoration of the gospel in our dispensation. He did that so we would have a base of religious freedom that would sustain the work of the Restoration. Also, the financial affluence and the political stability of the United States makes it possible for our Church to take the gospel to the world. That is a task that is not yet finished. Brethren, the Lord is at the helm! He will not let this work fail.” That was more than ten years ago, but I still vividly remember two things. First, how sheepish we felt for letting ourselves become so NEGATIVE. And the second was the lesson taught: GOD IS IN CONTROL. Why then do we fear? It was a profound teaching moment, and I have reminded myself of that day often when I have found myself growing discouraged and pessimistic. GOD IS AT THE HELM! (The Second Coming of the Lord by Gerald N. Lund; Chapter 2) Babylon is in the process of falling. Zion is in the process of being built. Stay with the Brethren. Our path has not changed. Our work continues. The BEST is yet to come!

Can't decide if I want Seahawks to win or Bears to win... Seahawks loss gives the Niners a continued big advantage in the division. So probably that. #Niners

Ok... My wife just told me we're not putting up all of our Christmas decor yet. I already pulled out garland and the tree and wreaths. Is it really too early for Christmas?

I learned that the position I was hoping to fill back in August was not officially open. Yesterday I learned the person filling that position had retired and that the position would become available soon. I may have missed out on one of two jobs in August...but the 2nd job that I thought was open is now going to be officially open. I sincerely hope that I'll be getting that job in the New Year. Sooner would be a HUGE win...but that's not how school schedules really work.

Well... I guess it's good I missed a meltdown of my Niners in the last 4 minutes. I'm sitting in the passenger seat streaming the game and went through a dead zone and lost signal through the rest of the game. Bye week next week. Time to get ready for the end of the season and a #QuestFor6 #FTTB

My wife is driving us home from UT and I'm doom scrolling... So I had to share this reel because it made me laugh. And how dare you call yourself a Bro if you can't grill for a party of 30. Seriously. Do you even bro at all if you can't grill? But it's still brocist to assume. #broLife

Imagine how many "offensive" T-shirts you've seen at a typical ball game. This one that supports girls sports is worthy of being kicked out...

One of the great things about having a member of the Godhead confirm to our souls the truth... It becomes so undeniable that all the impassioned reasoning of secularism becomes trivial. I'm so happy for Victoria and the sweet sister who felt the witness of the Holy Spirit and acted on that witness. God bless all who are willing to listen to God when He speaks.
I got called in for a lesson today, and the young lady said she wanted to be baptized right on the call! 🤯 I couldn't believe it, and I felt like I was witnessing a miracle 🤍 There I was, home from the temple, happily curled up to watch Gilmore Girls on this cold and rainy night, when I got the call from the elders. I felt like I was the third string sitting on the bench, and they called me in because they're down to the last play and needed a hail mary. I picked up the phone, and they said, "Sister Kennedy, we need you. There's a young woman we're going to have a lesson with. Can we dial you in?" I said, "Say less 😎" So I jumped on the call, and the missionaries were just killing it. I felt the Spirit, and the young lady felt the Spirit. There were just good vibes going all around. They asked me to share my testimony, and I tried to tie it to her story so she could relate. I told her I also grew up Catholic, and I did my due diligence and researched. I could no longer deny that I felt the Holy Spirit in this church. The young lady was feeling it as well. She said, "I've been looking for a church, and I really feel like this is the one. I'd like to be baptized." I couldn't believe my ears! 🤩 I was so happy. The missionaries were so happy, and they asked me to lead the closing prayer 😬 As you saw from my last post, I usually refuse to say it because I feel uncomfortable praying to Heavenly Father, but I was not about to ruin the energy. The Holy Spirit was really with me tonight, so I led the prayer to Heavenly Father for the first time. I think it went well, thankfully! And I'm so excited for the young lady. She seems so wonderful, and the missionaries were just so on. The Holy Spirit was with us all tonight. Please say a prayer that this young lady will get baptized! It was such a great day, so filled with the Spirit 🕊️

My almost 18yo son just called to tell us he'd been pulled over and the officer informed him that his license wasn't valid. He had just been taken off a 6 month suspension in September so that should drop off the charges but the speeding ticket means he'll likely lose his license at least until he turns 18 in January. I'm very angry with him. Our insurance has already gone up because of him and will likely go up again with this new infraction. I want to force him to pay for the entire increase in insurance costs. In the past we've covered insurance for our kids unless they did something to cause and increase and then they were responsible for the increased portion. I think he's now going to be paying his own insurance in full instead of just the increase.

My 11mo granddaughter is an absolute wonder to me. She walks around like a toddler but her object permanence is still developing. She has many gone motor skills but missing others. Her emotions are a roller coaster of extremes and she's the most beautiful reminder of God I have in my life right now.

I feel like these are the types of things you only see from protestantism. @realDrTT this is why we need to get the Catholics and Mormons on the same wavelength for Christian unity.
