Israeli hostage survivor Bar Kupershtein, 24, has revealed the horrific torture, starvation and psychological abuse he endured during 738 days in Hamas captivity, including being forced to dig his own grave for a propaganda video, suffering repeated beatings and losing 65 pounds (29 kg). Kupershtein described spending most of his captivity underground with five other hostages, without daylight, proper sanitation or sufficient food. The hostages slept on thin mattresses on the floor, dug a hole beside them to use as a toilet and were allowed to shower only once a month. Their drinking water was contaminated, while meals consisted of rice and half a pita bread with cheese, infested with maggots. Kupershtein recalled how Hamas terrorists repeatedly told the hostages that Israel had abandoned them and wanted them dead. They were also forced to record propaganda videos praising their captors. Following the collapse of hostage negotiations in early 2025, the abuse intensified. "Hamas came day after day and beat us," he recalled. During one particularly brutal assault, terrorists blindfolded Kupershtein and fellow hostage Yosef Chaim Ohana, struck him in the face, dragged him by his leg into another room and tied his legs together. He feared they were preparing to amputate one of his legs. The beating lasted approximately 30 minutes and left him unable to stand properly for a month. Kupershtein had been working as a security guard at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched its massacre. Before being kidnapped, he convinced a police commander to open an emergency exit, helping more than 2,000 festivalgoers escape. He also used an all-terrain vehicle to evacuate injured people before terrorists overran the festival. He was eventually captured and taken into Gaza. Despite the horrific conditions, Kupershtein said he and his fellow hostages maintained their Jewish traditions, gathering every week for Kiddush prayers using salty water instead of wine. On October 13, 2025, after 738 days in captivity, Kupershtein was released alongside 19 other surviving hostages. His reunion with his family was especially emotional. His father, who had lost the ability to walk following a motorcycle accident in 2019, managed to stand to welcome him home. A year later, Kupershtein says he has learned to appreciate the simplest freedoms, including opening his refrigerator, eating whenever he wants and taking a shower. He has since traveled internationally to share his testimony, met US President Donald Trump at the White House and published his memoir, Unbreakable.

I bought a hat with some Hebrew text on it. In thirty minutes of wearing it in public, I've had two people come up and challenge me about the hat, asking what language it was and then glaring at me when I said Hebrew. I'm not Jewish. I don't like living in a world with ethnic hatred. This is bullshit, and it has to be pushed back against. You can have whatever feelings you want about a war on the other side of the world, but hating someone here because of what language you think they speak is disgusting.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch since my interview with @gordonrayner in the Telegraph on Sunday, including so many former BBC colleagues. Some of you have told me you are going through something similar at work. You are not alone.

Yes, I am saying the Nakba never happened. Palestinians tried to kill their Jewish neighbors. They lost. They were not invited back. That’s not a tragedy. It’s the consequences of Jew hate.

This is the essence of why I doubt Palestinians will ever see peace. They sit there, in their territory Jews can't enter, have their kids singing songs about killing the Jews at school, and unironically claim the problem is that Israel is racist.
The issue in Israel is racism. Opposition to including Islamists or Arab nationalists in government rings hollow when fascists like Ben Gvir and Smotrich are accepted as coalition partners.

Tonight, my family and I experienced something no family should ever have to go through. Our restaurant, Singh’s Dining Restaurant in Hammersmith, was attacked by a group of Islamists. We had been receiving death threats every single day, including one that specifically warned us that 28 October would be our last day. We raised our concerns, and the @metpoliceuk were aware of the threats. Yet tonight, we found ourselves facing the very nightmare we had feared. My daughter had to close the shutters just in time. I cannot even begin to imagine what might have happened if she hadn’t acted so quickly. We could have lost someone in our family tonight. The attackers reportedly tried for a long time to break through the shutters to get inside, leaving shortly before the police arrived. We have serious concerns about how the attackers knew when to leave, and whether they were alerted before the police arrived. These concerns deserve a thorough and transparent investigation. Tonight, I am left facing a heartbreaking decision, Do we keep our doors open and risk our lives, or do we shut down the business we have worked so hard to build because I don’t serve Halal food. No family should ever have to choose between their livelihood and their safety. No one should have to live in fear in their own place of work. I am angry. I am heartbroken. I am frightened for my family’s safety. I am calling on the @metpoliceuk to take these threats seriously, investigate tonight’s attack thoroughly, and ensure that my family is protected. Please share this post. Let our voices be heard. We should not have to wait for someone to lose their life before our safety is taken seriously. Enough IS Enough. #Justice

Today, on an isolated Israeli farm in Judea (AKA “West Bank”). These farmers, on Israeli sovereign territory, are frequently attacked & harassed by their Arab neighbours. Yet so many in the West vilify them & accuse them of “settler violence”. The truth is very different.

So Judaism, which is an ethnicity, shouldn’t have a state, but Islam, which is a religion, should have over 50. Got it. You hate Jews.

If $3.8 billion a year in aid to Israel offends you, but billions poured into Gaza while Hamas built hundreds of miles of tunnels did not, it was never about the money.

Holy shit.
“You are quite openly Jewish” “If you choose to remain here you will be arrested for breaching the peace” In Sadiq Kahn’s diverse & inclusive London - Police threaten you with arrest just for being Jewish in areas of the City people might take offence to that.

“Would you like some therapy?” That was the alleged response from a BBC manager to a Jewish employee after a colleague called Israeli forces “baby-killers” during a conversation about Sir Nicholas Winton, who saved hundreds of Jewish refugee children from Czechoslovakia. Another ex-employee said their concerns about the BBC’s coverage of Israel were met with “aggression” from a manager. This comes in the aftermath of a reported £400,000 payout from the Corporation to Jewish documentary-maker Lucie Kon, who spoke about inflammatory comments made by colleagues, including “if you want to call Hamas terrorists then you have to call Israel terrorists, too”. There is a deep rot at the BBC. It’s clear the Corporation is in need of fundamental reform. We’re calling for a suspension of the BBC licence fee pending an investigation. The BBC appear to be trying to justify obsessive coverage of an election in a tiny country 3000 miles away with “but the Jews run the world innit”
Is @bbclysedoucet really saying our cost of living is affected by Israel? Peoples’ suffering always seem to come down to the Jews. Bizarre but standard for Al Beeb.

According to @bbclysedoucet the Israeli election impacts food prices in the UK. She doesn't explain how or why, but I guess it's just those pesky Jews controlling the world again.

Never in my life did I think I would witness something so abhorrent in a Western country. To see rape openly glorified as resistance is beyond sickening. If this is what some pro-Palestinian activists are promoting, I do not want anyone who advocates such barbarity in our country, regardless of who they are.

The vile comments on this post offer a snapshot of what Jewish people face daily. I’m not Jewish, but I’ve had a torrent of abuse since calling out antisemitism in schools. It’s not acceptable and these people are gross.
It is a stain on us as a society that Jewish children are frightened to go to school in Britain in 2026. I welcome Sir David Bell's review & thank those brave enough to share their experiences. Warm words will not be enough, the recommendations must be properly enforced.
