Sun news: Fast solar wind might brush Earth This video shows the solar wind racing out from the sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, as seen from NASA's Parker Solar Probe. It captured these images with its WISPR instrument during its record-breaking flyby of the sun on December 25, 2024. The same kind of wind, streaming from coronal holes, has kept Earth's magnetic field at active levels in recent days. And there's a chance more is coming today! Read the sun news.⤵️

Massive eruptions from the sun's northwest The massive eruptions we've been watching in the sun's northwest, with their huge prominences—great ropes of solar materials and magnetic fields, arcing up above the sun's surface—have turned into one long-lasting fiery prominence dancing on the solar edge. Read the sun news.⤵️

Auroras likely tonight and tomorrow Here's NOAA's aurora forecast for tonight. The red zone marks the highest likelihood of auroras, stretching across Alaska, most of Canada, and dipping into the northern tier of the United States. And with more bursts of sun-stuff still inbound, the oval could yet push farther south tonight and tomorrow night. Read today's sun news. ⤵️

Sun news: Huge chunk of solar stuff coming to us at Earth This image is based on a numerical model used by space weather agencies. It follows a big CME or blast from the sun (which is the white object at the center of this image). Check out the size of that blast! It's now heading Earth's way, but not directly (Earth is the round, yellow dot at 0˚). It could arrive in the first hours of August 2.Aurora alert! Read the sun news.⤵️
