i just need to say that the way people will turn the blame on victims of an abusive friendship is appalling to me. the way you have to put this out there to stop being harassed is absolutely not something you should have to do. its common sense to recognize abusers have victims.

I really didn’t mean to ramble on. I just didn’t want there to be this perception that I was some kind of puriteen on a crusade of cleanliness or whatever. I am very pro-kink, pro-consent, pro-safety, and maybe a little too idealistic for my own good!

After all that had happened, in 2019 after my year as chair of FC, and after @corviphagy had been abused by a board member, we both offered to answer questions or train up replacements (we still wanted the convention to succeed) but we were met with radio silence.

Part of it was Covid safety for sure, but most of it was fear for personal safety not knowing who was safe to be around anymore. The added layer of anonymity provided by fursuits complicates things too, since that has been used against us in the past too.

I think it’s worth saying: I was a furry long before I volunteered at FurCon and continue to be one now. I *do* feel disconnected from the community since the FurCon stuff happened in 2019 followed up by Covid. Haven’t felt particularly safe to participate in public events

Here’s a fun fact: @corviphagy and I both during each of our runs as chair for FC tried to make adjustments to strengthen the con’s code-of-conduct. The changes intended to make the event safer by restricting hate-speech/imagery and to enforce bans on known sexual abusers.

Against my better judgement, I did attend the annual volunteer wrap party after my year as chair. I suppose I wanted closure at the time. Before I even walked through the door I was greeted with a “what are you doing here?” by someone else from the exec team.

One thing that hurt the worst for me with all this @furcon stuff is that I thought we did a pretty good job but were kicked to the curb so easily and without a word. Our access to all the staff resources we contributed to over the years, revoked in an instant.

As it turns out members of the board were/still-are close friends with some prominent zoophiles and ended up platforming them proudly at the night market after we were kicked out.

Was the implementation perfect? No, of course it wasn’t, but what we ended up with was /less/ than what we had proposed. Banning known actual zoophiles was a step too far for some members of exec and the board and people threatened to walk out.

I’ve been quiet about it for far too long, mostly because the memories hurt to relive. We lost our community and so many friendships as people @corviphagy and I knew and thought we were friends with decided to stay friends with the people who kicked us out.

You may not know this, but my partner @corviphagy and I were extremely active volunteers with @FurCon for many years. In fact, we both were on exec staff for several years and even both chaired the con.
They kicked us out after we were harassed and abused by a board member.

I chaired FC 2018 and all I got was diagnosed PTSD! Volunteering at cons means being guilted into accepting abusive behavior “for the love of the con,” spending your own money on supplies, and never being thanked. The abusers are still there, FWIW.

When it happened to me, I quickly left the venue in fear for my safety.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the board is compromised.
