Tough moment as a dad yestedsy.
We live in New York City, and I take my 6-year-old son to San Francisco to see the Giants game once a year.
It’s what he looks forward to most throughout the year, and is especially meaningful to me because I grew up going to Giants games.
He loves baseball, and never lets us leave before the very end of the game.
We have been careful to only let him watch shows on an iPad during flights, but this time I let him use it at the hotel before bed the night before.
On the way to the game yesterday, he asked me if we can leave the game early today.
I was really surprised, and asked him why.
He dodged the question, and finally shared he wanted to head back to the hotel so he can play with the iPad.
Those words stung a lot, but I can only blame myself.
That device is robbing us of some of the best moments of our lives together. It’s my fault, and I’m going to fix this problem.
Painful lesson learned.
