🇪🇺🇷🇺🇺🇸 Europe swapped Russian pipeline gas for American tankers, and in 2025 it paid more than three times what Americans pay for the same fuel The EU has rebuilt where its gas comes from in eight years. What it bought was safety from Moscow. What it pays for it is one of the highest gas bills among the big economies. From half to an eighth In 2018 Russia supplied half of the gas the EU imported from outside the bloc, according to Eurostat figures. By 2025 that share had fallen to about 13%. Norway took the top spot, rising from 24% to about 27% in 2025 and 29% in the first nine months of 2026. The biggest change came from across the Atlantic: American liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas cooled into a liquid and shipped by tanker, went from 0.3% of imports in 2018 to 16% in 2025, about 55 billion cubic metres. Qatar, a big supplier before, has almost vanished this year, from 17 billion cubic metres in 2018 to about 2 in January to September 2026, after the Iran war closed the Strait of Hormuz. How Europe got here For decades Europe, and Germany above all, bet that buying Russian gas would tie Moscow to the West. Germany took 55% of its gas imports from Russia in 2018 and backed the Nord Stream pipelines under the Baltic. The bet collapsed in 2022. Russia invaded Ukraine in February, cut flows over the summer, and the Nord Stream pipes were blown up in September. The EU then chose to leave Russian gas for good: it filled storage to strict targets, cut demand, opened new LNG terminals at speed and agreed to end Russian imports by 2027. Russian transit through Ukraine stopped on 1 January 2025. The price of the switch Pipeline gas from next door is cheap to move. LNG is not: it has to be cooled, shipped and warmed again, and Europe buys much of it at market prices in competition with Asia. In 2022 the market price hit a record €339 per megawatt-hour on 26 August, against an average of €22 in 2018. By 2025 the panic had passed, but the gap had not. The European market price averaged about $12 per million British thermal units (MMBtu, the unit gas is traded in), and the EU paid on average about $13.4 for its imports, according to our calculation from Eurostat trade data. For American LNG it paid about $15.3. Compare that with the others. In the United States, the benchmark Henry Hub price averaged $3.52 in 2025, the US Energy Information Administration says, so Europe paid between three and four times the American price. China's LNG imports cost about $465 a tonne from January to November, Chinese customs data reported by ICIS show, or roughly $8.9 per MMBtu on our conversion, about a quarter cheaper than Europe's market price. India's buyers paid around $11.9 for spot cargoes to its west coast, according to Argus, close to Europe's level. Why the gap Europe pays more because of where it chose to buy. The United States produces its own gas. China mixes LNG with long-term contracts and pipeline gas from Russia and Central Asia, which keep its average price lower. India, like Europe, relies heavily on LNG bought near market prices, so it pays similar prices. Europe gave up its cheapest source in a hurry, and the market knew it. The bill is not only in money. Europe traded one dependence for another. Russia now sends about 13% of its imported gas, but the United States sends 16% to 17% and Norway close to 30%, and the sea lanes matter more than before. This year showed the risk: when Hormuz closed, Qatari cargoes disappeared and the European market price climbed back to about €53 on average from January to September, and above €90 in October. The other side Defenders of the strategy argue that the old system was never cheap once the risk was priced in: Gazprom controlled Germany's largest storage site and left it nearly empty before the war. American and Norwegian supply comes from allies, not from a state at war with a neighbour. And Russian gas has not fully gone, with Russian LNG still landing in Europe in 2026. The 2027 end of Russian imports, the price of American cargoes as US export capacity grows, and whether Hormuz reopens before winter. If all three go wrong at once, Europe will feel 2022 again.

Iran is furious! 🔥 Qatar's energy minister says the new volumes make QatarEnergy the LARGEST buyer of U.S. LNG in the world. That comes just a week after it signed a separate deal for 4 million tonnes a year from Cheniere When the Strait of Hormuz gets choked off, Gulf's gas behemoths are turning to DONALD TRUMP'S United States. Every time you swipe or insert your bank card at a supermarket, restaurant or an Airport, you're trusting a machine you've probably never inspected with your financial information. But here's something remarkable. When you pay through Apple Pay or Samsung Wallet, the shop can receive your money without ever receiving your actual bank card number. To understand why this matters, consider how older payment systems work. Magnetic stripe cards contain information that remains largely unchanged, which criminals can steal using tiny devices called skimmers, sometimes concealed inside payment terminals. Modern chip cards are considerably safer. They generate unique cryptographic codes for each transaction, making counterfeiting much harder. However, tampered readers can still capture certain card details, while hidden cameras or modified keypads can steal PINs. Paying with your phone takes security a step further. When you add your bank card to Apple Pay or Samsung Wallet, a device specific replacement number, called a token, is created and protected by secure hardware inside your phone. Once you authorise a payment using Face ID, your fingerprint or a passcode, Near Field Communication NFC allows your phone to exchange information with the terminal over just a few centimetres. But instead of revealing your original card number, it provides the token alongside a fresh cryptographic security code. The payment network and your bank verify the transaction, all within moments. Even if someone intercepts this information, reproducing a valid payment is considerably harder. And because your physical card never enters the terminal, traditional card slot skimmers are avoided entirely. Think about that. You can walk into a completely unfamiliar shop, authorise a payment in seconds, and leave without ever exposing your original bank card number to its payment terminal.

"Rep. Becerra’s Trip to Cuba Hits a Nerve" “He can travel anywhere he wants but when you assume a leadership position, you should take into account how your actions affect others,” Ros-Lehtinen said. “I guess he doesn’t care how his actions hurt others.” Diaz-Balart said that he would not contribute membership dues to the caucus until Becerra “demonstrates minimal respect for the rights of Cubans to be free and calls for free elections for that oppressed island.” Becerra was on his way to China on Wednesday on a separate trip and could not be reached for comment."

Did you know that you can request your local library buy copies of books? Did you know you can automate this with a simple vibe coded web app? Did you know that I’m doing that today?
Unelected by @DataRepublican and @JoshuaLisec is a New York Times bestseller right out of the gate. As an author, I can assure you this is an extraordinary achievement, especially for a book from a small independent publisher. Yet my library network, spanning dozens of locations, including Boston, doesn’t have a SINGLE copy available on Libby. I asked a friend to check his California library account. Same story. Not one copy. Unbelievable. Meanwhile, liberal darling Malcolm Gladwell has a book with a photo of the American flag at half mast and a clear agenda to cancel the 2nd Administration is two spots below Unelected on the bestseller list. My library has EIGHT copies of his book. Eight. One book is outselling the other, yet readers in my library network have eight opportunities to borrow Gladwell and ZERO to borrow Unelected. The game is rigged, people.

NYT reports today that the Obama DOJ first started investigating Ilhan Omar (alias) marriage to her brother ten years ago. “Federal agents in Minnesota opened an investigation, according to several people familiar with the matter. They found evidence suggesting that Mr. Elmi and Ms. Omar were siblings, according to the six former and current officials familiar with the case. But, because prosecutors did not pursue the matter, the agents had limited investigative tools, the officials said.” After rumors of the sham marriage—it was well known in Minneapolis’ Somali community back then—threatened to derail her run for state representative, the Obama appointed U.S. Attorney for Minnesota stepped in to save her with this extraordinary letter to her attorney. She was elected to Congress in 2018. Andrew Luger was later rewarded with the same appointment from Joe Biden. He then worked closely with—guess who?—Lisa Monaco.

NEW: War Department official tells @realDailyWire that Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia was fired by Secretary Hegseth for "severe misconduct." That includes meeting with journalists outside the Pentagon to "leak classified information." "Although Sylvia’s title was director of the Directorate for Strategy, Plans, and Policy at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, known inside the military as the J5, he was NOT a central planner for the Iran War. That is the responsibility of CENTCOM and its commander Admiral Cooper. " "Sylvia is the subject of an investigation for leaking classified information about the Iran War, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and more. Due to the Pentagon’s media policy requiring journalists to have escorts in the building, Sylvia began meeting with journalists outside of the Pentagon in order to leak classified information." "Sylvia failed three polygraphs which questioned him about leaking classified information. The investigation into him remains ongoing and has been referred to the Department of Justice for further action. The extent of his leaking became so critical that Secretary Hegseth took immediate action and fired Sylvia in order to protect national security. Urgent action was needed and could not wait another second."

This is Lisa Murkowski. Absolute trash.
Lisa Murkowski announced that she would vote against confirming Pete Hegseth. She also voted against Brett Kavanaugh. She didn't approve of his temperament or demeanor. Murkowski didn't have those same concerns about liberal Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, she voted yes on her.
