Now rewatching: a rare example of the more obvious choice and commercial film deserving Best Actress

I like a lot about Primetime but I think there low key just wasn't much of a story there and the movie struggled with that

Thanksgiving is obviously more a tv special than a movie holiday bc it’s not a global thing, but what are the staples besides like Charlie Brown Thanksgiving?

Watch movies more than once. Watch movies that have something in common (genre, director, subject, style, etc...) and try to pin down their actual similarities and differences. Read good film criticism. Write bad film criticism. But, above all, the most important thing is
cinephile oomfs is the secret to developing taste just watching more movies?? what do you like about movies.. or look for ig... & how much does your impression of the film depend on the visuals vs the writing/pacing? would u consider acting as part of the former or the latter

and it happened again! once more i say, OPEN THE SCHOOLS!!!!
every year the letterboxd average for the original halloween goes down a point... i think it's safe to say that directly correlates with the shortening attention spans of new generations watching it for the first time each year. open the schools!!!

Hardly anyone is saying you should read about movies, which is really a sign of the times. Reading criticism and literature about movies, directors, themes, narratives, is probably the best way to define the ideas that you’re drawn to and find other movies that expand on them.

The secret to developing taste is to engage with life outside of just movies. Don't be a hermetic academic. Travel, meet cool people, engage with different art forms, take risks, have interesting experiences, etc... Your tastes will form naturally from there.

October is for 80s, blood and guts, and schlock movies. November is for dark, ominous, psychological gothic stuff. December is, too. The Victorians understood this, they made ghost stories a key part of Christmas. These dying months are great for the macabre.
There’s still a week grace period to watch halloween movies fyi

Starting to think you guys aren’t old enough to remember the melodic and songwriting genius Taylor was in the 2010s
Hot take: Olivia Rodrigo is already better than Taylor swift and more critically acclaimed than Taylor was at Olivia age and overall

Its honestly taylors fault for dropping The Life of a Showgirl and making people confident enough to say stuff like this

There's a lot of gay ppl doing culture commentary now who do not know cultural references beyond the ones that have been memes on the internet. In previous generations being gay in that space was all about being a nerd about cultural minutiae of the past. That was the foundation
this level of queening out is becoming an increasingly lost art. jake shane my brother, class needed to start YESTERDAY.

actors used to get golden globe noms in the comedy category for blockbuster comedies, now it's an oscars predictor with a side of category fraud
every awards system and voting body has its flaws, but at least the gothams are one of the few that clearly come from a place of passion and reverence for the titles they support rather than oscar predictive rubber stamping and that’s more than most any other body can say

I took the app for a test run around Chicago and wow
So I recently badgered my cinematographer @steveyedlin into making my ideal iPhone still camera app. It shoots RAW, bypasses the iPhone's look processing and instead uses the same image processing we use on our movies. apps.apple.com/app/apple-sto…

You need to include Sex and the City in that list because my girls built HBO. (SATC premiered six months before The Sopranos) Also Veep, The Comeback, Insecure, Girls - basically, the female-led shows. C'mon.
Besides THE WIRE, THE SOPRANOS and GAME OF THRONES, what’s one HBO series everyone needs to watch at least once? Looking for those underrated gems and all-time greats that deserve to be in the conversation.
