It could not be more stark, according to the data. You could have the hardest-working, most prodigious Congressional representative or the most obstructive. “Based on 84 votes she cast on land use since she joined the board in 2021, Chan was second only to former Board President Aaron Peskin in amassing a record consistently opposed to liberalizing housing regulation.” “From Wiener’s first session in the state Senate in 2017-2018 through the 2025-2026 session, he authored the most bills of any legislator in the chamber, at 186. Of those bills, 97 passed and were signed by the governor — the second-most over that period.” sfchronicle.com/politics/art…

Well good. Let those same politicians, and this guy Barak Gila, be the FIRST ones to have new construction built right next to their homes, preferably one on each side, and make sure that their homes are as shady as possible. Same goes for all Yimbys out there. Fair is fair.
it was an 8-1 vote to no longer let buildings get blocked because they cast a shadow. the sole vote bravely defending blocking new homes that throw shade? you guessed it, conservative NIMBY Connie Chan.

I might not like everything that @bilalmahmood has done but he deserves credit for getting this over the finish line. If you have an issue with "shadows" but want trees in the parks because they provide "shade" you are part of the problem.
The SHADE Act has been passed into law today by Mayor Lurie! Over the past 10 years, over 2000 units of housing have been blocked or delayed because NIMBYs said the housing would cast a "shadow". So we're done letting red tape cast shade over our housing future. The SHADE Act will no longer allow shadows be used as a basis for environmental appeals. It will save between 3-9 months on some environmental reviews and up to $25,000 per project in reduced staff, consultant, and administrative costs. We can protect our parks, respect our environment, and welcome more neighbors. We don’t have to choose. It’s time to let housing projects see the light of day. Thank you to all those who helped turn this into law. My cosponsors Matt Dorsey, Danny Sauter, and Myrna Melgar. My legislative aide Raynell Cooper, all the incredible members of the Planning Department including Lisa Gibson, Lisa Gluckstein, Ryan Shum,Kei Zushi, Tania Sheyer, Debra Dwyer, members of the Mayors Office including Ned Segal and Adam Thongsavat, and our drafting attorney Andrea Ruiz-Esquide.

BREAKING: A reporter asked Mike Johnson today, “Should we bother asking you a question about Jared Kushner treasonously manipulating US foreign policy behind Marco Rubio’s back with billions in laundered bribes sitting in secret bank accounts, or have you not heard about it yet?"

Just so non-golfers know... No 80-year-old on earth with a pancake swing and the chip yips has ever shot TEN SHOTS under his age. Club members let him win because nobody wants to get audited the rest of their lives. #CommanderInCheat

This is one of the best pieces of journalism I've ever read. The detail, the leg work, the insight — it's all world class. Huge props to @meganrcassidy and @gabriellelurie. You make me proud to work for the San Francisco Chronicle. sfchronicle.com/projects/202…

Ann says it perfectly here. A gut-wrenching loss. We had her for a spell at the Chronicle, and it was memorable.
Gwen was brilliant, funny, fun, quirky, with a giant heart, who would do anything for any friend, human or four-pawed and whiskered. I was just texting with her a few days ago. Her sports family is gutted.

MASSIVE REVERSAL: The 49ers just got the best news possible on Jimmy Garoppolo. It’s not a Lisfranc injury, as initially feared, and there’s a chance that he can be back for the playoffs
Sources: Doctors concluded today that 49ers' QB Jimmy Garoppolo does not need foot surgery, it is not a Lisfranc injury, and if rehab goes smoothly, he could have a chance to return in 7-8 weeks, making him a potential playoff contributor.
